I have had low back issues since 1988 when I pushed a disc out squatting.
It has plagued me ever since, L4 and L5 both bulging and a slight bulge in one of my thoracic discs.
I have to be very careful doing manual tasks, I very rarely get injured training as I am conscious of maintaining form, I have had far more back spasms tying my shoe laces and sneezing...
I never squat, deadlift , I do all of my dumbbell exercises seated.
I do 4 sets 20 reps stiff leg deadlifts with a 10 kilo plate every workout, this keeps my low back muscles developed enough to stave off spasms.
I also use a foam roller for my mid back every night and also do spine rotations to free off any tightness before I go to bed.
When I stopped training in the late 90s my back went considerably worse as my low back muscles weakened.
