Jeff King...2nd place 1987 NABBA UNIVERSE. I believe that it was Jeff's last show ever. Stills from this show dont do him the justice that this video does. Not bad for a guy who admittedly never took more than 1200mg of anabolics a week. And never touched GH. Genetics baby, discipline, hard dieting and real training. Sorry...but not everybody can be a great bodybuilder.

Great post!!!  I just noticed yesterday that that video was recently uploaded.

Jeff was for sure a beefy heavyweight.  Obviously, he had great athletic genetics [if appearances do not deceive], but he decided that he would rather be big, and really shined in bodybuilding.  You are right about Jeff's success in 1987.  I believe he never won a show that year.

Here are Jeff's own comments about genetics, from his interview by Steve Colescott:

Steve: "Can you tell my readers how you were able to pack 230 pounds on a relatively small-boned frame?"

Jeff: "A lot of it has to do with what God gave you - the genetics you were born with. You need to start out with a certain amount of muscle fiber. There are theories out there like muscle hyperplasia and all that. I really don't believe in them. You're born with what you're born with."

We've discussed this before Coach. No Gh/ slin and basic compound movements. Also ahead of his time when it came to nutrition.

Yep, I really like this classic bodybuilding class. It will soon overcome bodybuilding of today. Bodybuilding will soon come full circle

Ah - haha.  Yeah, true.  He was about as good as you can get, and under a more current protocol, I suspect he could have attained Art Atwood size.  That said, it's probably for the best that he didn't.  He had, what, 10 or 12 years of sauce in him, and was done with bodybuilding?  I think that's about right.

Not too long after Jeff's Universe win he worked at Turner's Gym in Missouri. I never saw him train, but he was sure impressive walking around the gym.

Sadly...yes sir, that is the case.    Good for Jeff though, to have seemingly gotten out of bodybuilding at the right time, despite his injuries, and any other biological damage he may have done for taking bodybuilding to the elite level during the 1980s.
