Great post!!! I just noticed yesterday that that video was recently uploaded.
Jeff was for sure a beefy heavyweight. Obviously, he had great athletic genetics [if appearances do not deceive], but he decided that he would rather be big, and really shined in bodybuilding. You are right about Jeff's success in 1987. I believe he never won a show that year.
Here are Jeff's own comments about genetics, from his interview by Steve Colescott:
Steve: "Can you tell my readers how you were able to pack 230 pounds on a relatively small-boned frame?"
Jeff: "A lot of it has to do with what God gave you - the genetics you were born with. You need to start out with a certain amount of muscle fiber. There are theories out there like muscle hyperplasia and all that. I really don't believe in them. You're born with what you're born with."
