The Classsic Regence Medicare Advantage PPO plan for my area has a max out of pocket of $6,000 for in-network providers and $10,000 for in and out of network combined. The annual deductible for prescription drugs is $250. Medicare bargains for reduced prices on many drugs which means they often cost very little. With 4 ongoing prescriptions, I never met the deductible last year. There is no deductible for medical providers. A primary care doctor co-pay is $10 and a specialist is $40. The monthly premium is $48. that's on top of the $135.50 monthly premium for Medicare. Total monthly premium cost is $183,50. Obviously, this is for single party health insurance. It is a good affordable plan for both healthy and not so healthy people.

The difference between this government plan and the Affordable Healthcare Act plan is that, up to a point, income is not a consideration. If the U.S. were to go with a single payer plan it would look similar to Medicare or the military Tri-care plan. I expect the level of service would drop or the premiums would be higher since something has to give.

You're over the age limit where it becomes good like I talked about.  My parents are on that now too.  My mom skipped annual exams til she reached the appropriate age, because before that kicked in it was pure shit.  Dad lost a good amount of retirement money due to getting "mild" cancer just b4 he reached that age as well.  Pretty sure it's 65 now that I'm thinking about it more. Luckily for him, Trump won and his retirement plan has been kicking ass to the point that he's ahead of where he was when it happened.....but Trump sucks for our country, right? ::)

So once again, you prove my point.  Do you really think that Bernie or any of the other dems are going to deliver that kind of healthcare you're quoting for all....for free?  If you're that dumb, I can't wait to hear you cry about how you can't get to a dr. anymore once they've changed to free medical for all.

The whole reason for ACA was single payer. If that makes Dems have "a slight edge" as somebody said above...how sad is that where their own poor legislation is somebody else's albatross to deal with. That was the intent. Anybody with a shred of actuarial skill could extrapolate out the aging mean population and see that it won't work.

I can pay my insurance now, that's not the issue. I'm not willing to pay double though - it would make more sense just to start my own medical saving acct at some point if I'm throwing 10-15k a year into nothing.

Don't worry about SP!  Bernie and AOC are going to make Buffet, Bezos, Gates, etc. pay for it all.  And they will happily keep employing people here in the states for that honor for years to come.  Don't let those evil conservatives convince you that that thing they call "common sense" would dictate otherwise.....it's all lies SP....all lies dammit! ;D

What state do you live in?  Whom do you cover?  Pre-existing conditions?  Your income range?  Is this what you pay upfront?  Is there a rebate/subsidy that you get?

That is way too much money and I welcome something better and more affordable as well.
Louisiana. Myself. NO preconditions 52 yrs old.  Make too much money for subsidy or rebate. I pay the 715 every month.

....Trump abandoned plans to press for a vote on a bill to replace the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act ahead of next year's elections after a conversation with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, the Kentucky Republican said Tuesday. https://www.arkansasonline.com/news/2019/apr/03/trump-senator-agree-to-put-off-health-c/

Were your parents covered under the Afordable Healthcare Act before they were old enough to qualify for Medicare? I believe there are income restrictions (limits) in order to qualify.

Here is what I posted, "If the U.S. were to go with a single payer plan it would look similar to Medicare or the military Tri-care plan. I expect the level of service would drop or the premiums would be higher since something has to give." Can you find the word "free" anywhere in this post? Medicare and Tri-care are not free. Both have co-pays and deductibles. One pays premiums for Medicare. Tri-care and Medicare both restrict eligibility.

No medical insurance coverage is actually free. Everyone who pays taxes contributes to the cost of Medicare and Tri-care. The same would be true for a single payer plan.

I discussed two different topics.

-The failure of obumacare and the current state of medicare

-The question of what "free healthcare/medicare for all" would be like?

Don't try to act like your smart, and I fucked up or misspoke by twisting my shit around.  It won't end well for you!

Actually, it is $48,500 for a single person this year. So like you wrote, it's over $40,000. In New York $50,825 is the median income for a single person. Surely, this means you make far too much to qualify for health insurance under the Affordable Health-care Act. This leaves me somewhat confused. Since you can't utilize 'Obamacare' why do you criticize about it so frequently? Don't most reputable law firms offer their associates health care insurance?  Not being a lawyer in New York City, I wouldn't know.

I have no options but to have insurance through Obamacare, which make me have coverage for things I don't need.  Not planning of getting pregnant anytime soon ;D It is the only thing out there if you want coverage.  I had just 2 insurance companies to chose from. Just make a little too much for any subsidy that Obamacare gives.

I know that 50k is what one spends on tips at Starbucks in NYC. ;) It actually is very surprising that you folks have one of the lowest median incomes in the country.

Medical Insurance premium increases have been ridiculous for decades. It's been over nine years since I retired. Back when I was working insurance premiums were a major bargaining issue, right up there with wage increases. Long before I was on Medicare, the premiums for two party insurance was well over $1,000 a month. Amazing, since the school district that employed me was self-insured. The coverage matched one of the better Blue Cross plans. Obamacare did not cause health care premiums to go up, they'd already been going increasing each year.

If your interested in one comprehensive, 37 page study of  U.S. healthcare cost increases, I suggest reading, History of Health Spending in the
United States, 1960-2013
Aaron C. Catlin and Cathy A. Cowan, November 19, 2015. It offers quite a lot of information.
