Older Toyota truck. 4 cylinder, good on gas, will go anywhere a jeep will and also makes a great daily driver. 4 wheel on weekends, commute comfortably to work, move a fridge, does it all...

Friend of mine has been fucked around ruthlessly by Mitsubishi.  Brand new vehicle.  Apparently they had a bad run of block castings and won't stand by their crap.

Also knew a guy years ago who bought a new Mitsubishi van which leaked oil from day 1 and every day thereafter.  They basically told him stiff shit buddy.

I'd look at Toyota or Isuzu unless you want some badge cache.  I would have included Subaru but another friend has had major trouble with his exhaust/emissions system which has cost him 4 repairs so far with no indication there won't be more to come.  They simply don't know what they're doing.

This should prove interesting.
Looking to buy a Range Rover Sport / Lexus 450RXh / BMW X5
Mitsibushi PHEV or such like.

Look forward to your opinions on any of those or other similar vehicles.
Diesel or hybrid for Me.

Are you looking to buy or rent?  All of the above will work great for 3 years on a lease. The question is if you buy and want to keep the vehicle which will last over the long run without piling up the bills. I had a Toyota that ran perfect for 17 years. (side note. I had a new company car every three years for work) Outside of normal maintenance like brakes, oil changes and the the only repair I had was a water pump.  I sold the car to a college kid who drove it for another 5 years. I would buy the Lexus if you're not off roading with the vehicle. I see nothing but bills piling up with repairs and expensive maintenance with the Range Rover and BMW.

Looking buy a used vehicle around 4-6yrs old.
As much as I like the Range Rover sport it’s off the list - too expensive for what we need
Repairs / running costs / insurance.
We wil be keeping the vehicle for minimum 5/6yrs.
Like the Lexus/ she’s not keen & it’s her who’ll be using it most.
She’s now looking at a smaller mid size suv.!!   ??? Onwards we go.

Agreed.

They're reliable as well.

She currently has a Mitsibushi outlander diesel and other than the dual mass flywheel
Rumble ( very common issue with dual mass flywheels) it’s been great -
A rugged good sized vehicle. All makes Have duff parts sometimes - Agreed that the
Manufacturers should step up and sort these problems - I phoned Land Rover Customer
Service about a few potential issues with the 3.0v6 diesels the man I spoke to wouldn’t
Answer or acknowledged anything  ::) in fact made out like a 6/7yr old vehicle was
Almost a scrap vehicle. !!

Dodge Ram Ecodiesel 4X4 is my choice.  I just bought one and like it very much.  I researched this purchase for approximately 7 months and chose the Ram over Ford/Chevy/GMC (not at all interested in Toyota or Nissan).  I tend to keep vehicles for close to a decade or more so the diesel really appealed to me.

Like most 4X4s today, there is an "auto-4X4" that can be selected so that gives me that option should I think available traction might be sketchy.  For example, in Arizona there is what we call the "Monsoon Season" where it literally rains sideways.  I've been on my motorcycles in that and had to pull over because not only could I not see further than 30 or so feet in front of me, but the downpour is so intense it can literally knock/pull  the  bike right out from under me if you get caught in an unexpected "wash".

I've had my truck a couple of months now and am averaging 22 mpg combined but hope to take it on a short trip next month and see if I can get 25 to 30 mpg on the freeway doing the legal limit which depending up states is usually 70 to 75 mph.  Mine is the Big Horn edition and is a crew cab.  I really like it so far and know I made the right choice for me as I had zero "buyer's remorse".  Usually there is at least  a hint of that but not this time.   ;D

Have a ‘15 Nissan Titan Pro 4X and a ‘14 2 door Jeep Wrangler Sahara.  Both are great vehicles, but for road driving I prefer the Titan.  The Jeep is fun in the summer and off roads, but not very comfortable on highways.  They don’t handle the best and really get thrown around in the wind. The wife has a Ford Edge, AWD.  It’s a solid all around vehicle.  Throw a set of studded tires on for winter driving and you’re gold.

I've got a couple of  friends with the big Nissan that like them very much.  My younger brother has a Ram and Jeep Wrangler (they recently went from the 2 door to the 4 door) that both he and his wife think highly of.  The Jeep is a buckboard, especially compared to the Ram.  They tow with the Ram (toy hauler) and go off road with the Jeep.
