best supplement
« on: September 01, 2006, 05:36:59 AM »
Just started training and bought prolab n-large, eating egg whites through the day, chicken, turkey fruit and veg but finding it hard to find any other sources of protein can anyone tell me if this will help pack on some pounds or is there other sources.
                                                          Any advice would be appreciated

Protein alone will not pack on the pounds (hopefully muscle rather than fat). You need good quality carbs & fats/oils also to meet your daily calorie maintence and rebuilding requirements. The mean average for active males is around 3,000 daily. Try to up that to 3,500 (or more..depending on body type) for muscle mass gains. You may gain a little excess body fat, but not to worry. Once the desired muscle gains, some fat lose is easily taken care of by adjustments to the BB'ing diet. Good Luck.

I have found out (after 35 years of training), that protein supplements only make my wallet lighter , but Creatine is worth its weight in gold !!!

Creatine is number one !!!    :)     It works !!!

Never noticed any difference with protein supplements, ever !!!

vitamin C I know it sounds stupid but I always keep taking a good amout and it keeps free radicals down and I think Helps my immune system during heavy training and the times I have reduced the amount i take or ran out for a couple of weeks are the times I got colds.

I'm with you.  I just didn't like the added weight.  But I defintiely felt the difference.  Nothing else I have taken I noticed worked, except for when VPX made Clenbuterex(?).  That stuff was unreal.  MAde you wired as hell.

protein is expensive, carbs are not. N-Large is a supplement that's mostly carbs. Don't pay for carbs. Buy protein and add your own carbs.

If I could choose,
it would be between creatine and proteine.

Creatine actually does something.

Proteine is the biggest urban-legend in BB. There is absolutely no proof that your body will react on more proteine. Even the recomendation of 2 grams a kilo is way to much. Everybody who's stating; the more the better is a sponsored morown, excuse the language.

With a descent diet you should be able to get your daily dose of proteine, and for a lot of people it's easy to drink a proteinshake in the morning and/or evening. During the rest of the day there's no need for it if you keep eating (small) balanced meals.

Creatine is helpfull for everybody who doesn't eat (enough) red meat and/or fish or is a complete vegetarian.

Creatine can work well and has for most of the lifters & athletes I know. Even the high quality blended stuff with a dextrose/beet juice base is so cheap in price now. A lot of guy's get their's (San Diego area) at Super Wal-mart for less than $20 for a big jar. Some say that you don't have to do that 5 day loading thing at first but I disagree with that idea. Five days and than a one or two dose a day seems to work for strength and size (I think strength the best). Creatine is a byproduct of meat so should offer no danger to the body.

Protein is very important and can do wonders but you must get a purer grade of the stuff to insure proper digestion and assimulation into the blood stream. It must break down to a very usable amino acid form and balance. Protein will require smaller feeding periods during a full day, all day for best results. Too much crap out there that goes under the name protein, which may have a 15% base of low quality that really does a body no good at all. Higher, purer protein can be expensive  so do a search/research on anything you might think of buying.

Lot's of guy's don't get the full rewards of even a high quality protein if their calories are not high enought for body maintence/repair/muscle growth. The body will use the protein you eat as an energy/maintence supply for the body, in this case. You would just be burning up the protein for simple maintence rather than have it directed to building the muscle of the body if calories are not met on a daily bases. Good Luck.
