doesn't seem to me that she's worshipping/praying as she works . . . merely identifying herself as Christian . . .

Ahem .... "It is important to wear it to express my faith so that other people will know that Jesus loves them."

;D

(I didnt read it the first time round either :D)

still a question of degree. wearing a flag is expressing that you're proud to be an American . . .  I'm sure BA workers in America could do that.

if all she's doing is wearing a tiny cross (i saw a pic on bbc), it's not really an issue. If, however, she is letting people know that jesus loves them on BA's dime, then she should leave BA and work full-time for Jesus instead.

she wasn't necessarily being hypocritical, and BA seems to be losing the forest for the trees.

doesn't seem to me that she's worshipping/praying as she works . . . merely identifying herself as Christian . . . same kind of thing that American politicians do with their little american flag lapel and tie pins.

It's a question of degree . . . a tiny cross is not a problem.  Something that prevents identification when necessary, or that could be a weapon (sikh dagger) is a problem that most reasonable people can see.

there's no need to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Not that there's anything wrong with a "little american flag lapel."   :)

This is what I have a problem with:

"It is important to wear it to express my faith so that other people will know that Jesus loves them."

Definitely sounds like an attempt to proselytize.

And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly" (Matthew 6:5-6)

:)

Ya, that's the verse I was thinking of.

You go from one exteme to the next. You have not one thing to say for women. Especially women wearing the veil. Sorry, my opinion.

ahem...

I think it's a slippery slope we climb when we dictate that a person should keep their religion hidden, because to demand that would infringe upon those who due to their particular religion are unable to do so ie: Jews wearing yarmulke's & headscarves, Sikhs & turbans, Muslims & burkas, or face veils etc.

You can apologize when we go shoe shopping together at Holts.  :)

What really gets me is these are the same religious assholes who wish to limit everyone else's freedom of speech, yet when someone encroaches on their childlike beliefs its a problem ::)

When does the little cross become a real sized wooden one, like Jesus had.  You must draw the line somewhere and like the verse from the bible said in so many words....it doesn't count when you do it for attention.  Rules are rules.  When you work for someone you either obey them or work somewhere else.  The cross would protect her just as much on the inside as the outside and when in NY, she wouldn't have to worry about having it yanked.

So sorry Judi,  :'(  I'm in Europa right now, haven't slept since Saturday, am in the most foul, awful, terrible, disgusted mood EVER, working like a dog, hate the tedious people I'm working with, hate the hotel, and plus there was an issue with my passport when I got here because it was deemed slightly defaced since it got soaked in the rain on my last trip, and had to schlep to the embassy... and also am a little shocked by how much of the full-on wacky religious women's garb I see in the street. It pains me.  :(
