Bicep Question
« on: December 09, 2006, 01:55:19 PM »
A few days ago I had a brutal arm workout pyramiding up in weight and I noticed a day or 2 later I had bruising and black and blue in an area of my bicep. What gives?

Only time I've ever witnessed that is as the result of a tear or dislocation.

A small partial tear isn't that painful sometimes.  Treat the area very gentle, so you don't do any further damage.

go by how your body feels.  but dont stop training it. i dont mean hard, but maybe high reps and light weight to  pump some blood in it.

do you stretch???  stretching khas help me stay injury free while doing have weights.  I would suggest, icing it..

by reading that your not hurting. it  kinda makes me think that it maybe just a broken blood vasol.   but see if it clears up. and returns to you natural skin color. but if not, and its killing you tomorrow then you should see  a Dr.

If it doesn't hurt there's no reason to delay the next workout, unless there's pain felt when exercising in which case I'd suggest avoiding all direct work until the pain's completely gone.

In future, ensure warmups are thorough (take a little more time) and keep the reps moderate, not too low.

have you noticed a strengh lost in the discolored arm vs. the arm thats normal??  pain and strangh lost are two different things... if you can lift your usual weight with your upper body then nothings wrong.  If you find yourself feeling a streng lost.  then its a muscle tear. if thats the cause, ice  it a lot and take some ani-inflanatores..  (aka a painkiller) intake more  protein, so the muscle can repair the tear (if theres one)

I personally, dont miss any training day. i've had some joint issues. But i train through is..  if there is something wrong with the muscle don't stop training  arms. do high reps/light weight.

you shold stretch and werm up. stretching has helped me stay injury free. werm ups let my body get use to  lifting heavy wights. if i didn't do all this i would tear every muscle

Thx guys,,,the black and blue is starting to fade but I am feeling a little bit of pain in that area but my strength has not decreased at all. I am not sure if it is the black and blue brusie that hurts or if it is deeper than that. I will ice it and stretch it like you guys said. I did some sets of bicep curls a bit ago just to see if I had lost strength or anything and I havent.
