Question for early morning training
« on: January 16, 2007, 02:53:20 PM »
For any of you who work out early in the morning, like at 6:00 or 6:30.

How the fucc do you do it?

I tried it once in college and almost puked when I was doing weights.....how long does it take you get used to it? What time do you get out of bed in order to not be sleepy while working out? When do you go to bed? and do you eat anything (if so what) before you get there.

The advantages of training before your day starts seem tremendous to me, but, I can't see how doing anything but cardio is possible, with any intensity that is.

I don't have any personal experience in doing it. But a lot of people do it. A lot of pros do it. I remember seeing on video how Flex Wheeler was waiting outside his gym for it to open 4.30 in the morning  :)
I think it's a routine like everything else, you go to bed real early day after day, month after month and you will adapt to it. Getting the same number of hours sleep as you normally would.
Eating before is probably down to personal preference, but I would probably want something at least - you don't have that much energy after 7-8 hours or so of sleep.

Unless you're a real "nights person" you probably can make the switch.

you have to let your body adapt..you cant do one workout and say its shit..you have to let your body get used to it over a 2-3 week period.

i used to lift at 5am right before an 8am class.

i just drank a cup of coffee with my breakfast and i was ready to go.  The only serious problem i had was my shit cycle was thrown off for a few weeks, and i had to go to take a dump in the middle of my workout.  that sorted itself out after a while.

I guess if you get used to it, it might be ok.

I can't see myself working out at 430 am though.

6:00 is probably more reasonable, but, I am wondering if I need to get up at like 4 just to be quasi awake when I get there.

It would be worth it just to get away from the 530 to 600 crowd

make sure you get plenty of water though....people are pretty dehydrated in the morning and if you train immediately and dont hydrate up you can tear something much more easily

NO-explode and some good music for me at 5:30

A couple years ago I was a die-hard believer that I could never work out in the morning.  It really doesn't take that much getting used to though.  And if it's the only realistic time possible, then you learn to make it happen.

I work out at 6am...get up 5:40..at the gym at 6:05...

glut, creatine, animalpak, caffeine (200mg) and I am off....I did get a lot leaner..so much so that I started takin 30g of whey before..

to be honest I not sure of the nutrition when working out at that time in the morning..but my post work is the same as others (maltodextrin)

I've tried many times to workout in the morning and it never felt right for me. My body felt depleted, and my workouts always sucked. I just said F it and gave up. The only thing I'll do in the morning is cardio.

So do cardio later.  I hate training with alot of people around.  RIght now everyone is at the gym.  College kids, people trying to lose the 50 pounds they put on during Xmas, etc.  I like less hustle and bustle.  I mean not Planet Fitness but enough for me to do my thing without having to wait for some douche to finish doing his DB bench presses with the 10's taking up space.

I have been training at 6AM or BEFORE for 4 years now.  I prepped for 2 shows this way too, did weights/ cardio in the morning and then another cardio session before my last meal on the way home.  I find its easier come contest prep time.  Here is an average day for me.

Wake 5:30
Take 2 grams Carnitine 1 Hot Rox ( both Free ) :)
Shower
Breakfast at around 5:50 AM  1 cup oats, 5 egg whites, 2 whole eggs
On the way to the gym I take 2 grams CLA and 2-3 scoops of No-Xplode, Super Pump 250 or NOS Blast, whichever one I want  :)

By the time i reach the gym at 6:45 I AM READY TO GO.  I have done ALL of my personal best lifts in the morning which is weird, today pulled 410 for 6 solid reps on deads at a weight of 187, felt good.

I would not tend to agree with the distraction part however.  This time of year you have to be annoyed with the "new years resolution' people.

Just get up and get moving.  You won't lift as heavy, but just cause you're not lifting heavy doesn't mean you're muscles are not gettin pumped.  Its awesome.  I train at 4am.  and again around 2pm.  Sometimes do small muscle's cardio and stomach in the morning.  Larger in afternoon.
Most are all show no go!

this is the most hardcore thing i have ever seen.  you sound like an all-business kind of guy.  do you goof around in the gym with your buddies or once you hit the gym floor it's balls to the wall training until your mountains of muscle are screaming for mercy?  thanks in advance
