Actually 2 years mandatory service in the military wouldn't be a bad idea.

I used to think the same thing then the Air Force started a program that allowed 2 year enlistees. By and far they were the most troublesome troops in ths shop. The first 2 years in the military are an adjustment period and very few people truly enjoy them. The 2 year guys know they are going to get out so they usually put forth minimal effort.

I don't say it's a good idea because i think it's a good idea for the military,  I say it because i think it's a good idea for the nation's youth.  It's a great place to grow up a bit.   The military  builds character.  Where are most young people growing up now?   Mac Donald's?

Agree it would be good for the youth.
