Wide Arc Biceps Curl
« on: June 14, 2007, 11:07:51 AM »
We all know Biceps Curl must be perform with Wide Arc!But what mean "Wide Arc"
Lets see part of one article:
"
The figure represents a diagrammatical scheme of the arm (upper line) and the forearm (the line at a 90 degree angle to the arm).  The arrows represent the direction of force, and the blue sphere represents the axis, where the joint formed between the humerus and forearm bones takes place.  Notice how the muscle with the smaller moment arm is able to move the forearm through just as large of an angle as the muscle with the longer moment arm, yet not move as long a distance.

Therefore, we can conclude that a muscle with a longer moment arm is better suited to produce a larger torque, whereas one with a smaller moment arm can produce a larger angular movement with less distance.  The former is suited for gross and powerful movements, while the latter is more suited to a greater range of motion.  The elbow requires both of these, and such concepts will help you to understand why muscles are attached certain ways and what their main function might be."

How i Understand this! For maintain good wide arc we no need to keep our arms fully extend at whole movement! Why because if i start with really fully extend arm and try to wide arc first we have part of way whom arms travel not in arc only up because arms is fully extend! If we try to concentrate on really wide arc but not fully fully extend our arm, just concetrate on arc we able to remove this straight line of way and become from the beggining with arc!
On other side when arm is fully extend biceps is fully involve hmz....

It's good to consider and try different things. For example your earlier question before about whether to hold the weight out from the forearm or closer in would effect where the resistance lands and degree of difficulty.

Some of what you write is just slightly beyond comprehension; see if you have a friend you can send it to, to help clarify some of the english. As far as wide arcs or not, unclear what you're getting at.

I don't have any friend here who can help me with English! My idea is hard to explain and on my mother language!
I will try to make things clear!
My idea is:
When we try(ing) to maintain wide arc from the beggining to the end and on way down, like on diagram shorten MA - thinks are good!
But it somehow not allow to us to keep fully extend the arm (in elbow joint)!
If you try to extend fully arm like in Barbell Curl (standing) Start Position and try to keep arm extend (only in elbow join) and try to curl this way....
YOu will see from begin you have straight way up after it arc!
My idea is:
Secound way keep more tension on the biceps because try to keep biceps extend long time, but it not allow to us to get Great Full Arc!
I don't know how to explain it more clean sorry :(
I make two pictures:
1) Is How Must Be
2)What happen if we staright with fully staight arm and trying to keep arm extend when curling!
