I have my son entered in his first meet next month.The Powerlifting record for 5-year-olds in the 66lb weight class has stood since 2018. My son has not tried a squat yet we are going to work on those this weekend. Also no idea what he can Deadlift or Strict Curl we will work on all of those.
Raw Powerlifting not only recognizes the lift but has had an established record in his weight class for a decade. Raw powerlifting is a very legit organization. They are also still having the strict curls competition at the Arnold. Regardless though he is going for the bench press record which has been established since 2018. He will try the strict curl but he doesn’t train it. He uses dumbbells for curls Not sure if he can remember to stay on the wall at the contest. My son loves lifting he asked me before we got home if we could lift. He asked me if we could lift today. He does lots of sets and reps not just singles. Now we are working on the commands no need to go heavier as 28lbs is over the record just need to control it better on the descent and make sure to follow commandsYou are welcome to practice crochet and knitting with your grandkids if you have any my son and I like to lift together

He is 5 he is learning is he supposed to be an expert? It’s his first meet. I am recommending he just compete in the bench press but he keeps insisting he can deadlift and squat so we will see how he does. No reason not to curl while there Raw powerlifting is also a very legit powerlifting organization. Just did squats with 10lbs today learning the movement with a bar. The flexibility is amazing you tell a child to squat and they goes full range of motion like nothing had to tell him he doesn’t need to go that deep. Also tried some deadlifts tried to explain keeping the bar close he did a bunch of reps with 25lbs just trying to learn those movements. The bench is where we put the most work did 3 sets and 3 singles again today. We did change his working sets from 15 to 18lbs. Then just did a single at 25 and 27 almost had 29.5. Worked some leg extensions as well then went for a long hike in the woods. Debating if we are going to go to the meet or not just enjoying training together honestly there is another meet this summer we could keep packing a little longer
