working around a chip bone in elbow
« on: April 23, 2008, 11:01:17 AM »
hey guys
I found out on Monday that over they weekend.  I chipped a bone in my elbo. it hurts just as much as a broken bone I can't train with weight for two weeks. I'm doing just body weight exerise at home, I did the bodyweight squats, lunges and some calf work.  my elbow isn't strong enough  for do the upper body. I mean like different kinds of push ups

I was wondering. have anyone had a chipped bone in their elbow. I'm going to reture to the gym starting in may. do i need to watch the pressing movements for the upperbody?? no one that Ihave spoken to will give me straight answers. I might need some rehab just to get the range of motion  back.

thx

I've never had your injury but I would rehab that area using stretch bands to keep the ROM and keep the area used to doing extensions.

You could use the hack squat and leg press if you can load the machine with one arm.  If you can do shoulder raises (front, side, back) then I would do those.  If you like and can do upright rows then do those as well.

thx for the reply

I have to see a Dr. for rehab. My range of motion is 3/4 normal but its hard to get it straight at my side without some pain.I'm trying to not to wear my sling, to keep it moving.

my plen is to do machine at first. b/c my ROM isnt the best. I pull from my elbows a lot like on back and side laterals.

since I'm using all machine and light weighs.  what do you guys think of this plen

upper body / lower body

upper body
chest- incline press machine
       or   chest press
shoulders- military press
tri-dips machine
bis-preacher curls machine
back- row machine
       or pulldows

Lower body
quads-lying squat machine or seated leg press
         leg extensions
hams-lying leg curls
calves-standing calf raise
abs- crunes

I'm going to use
upper body
lower body
rest
upper body
lower body
upper body
rest lower body

I'm just going to do 2 sets of 20 reps.

what do you guys think?? Remember, I'm limited inmichines

I would think you would have to see a doctor for more than a rehab OK.You may need a surgery OK.  Of course that will depend on the X rays and how near the bone chip is to the joint and tendons themselves. If it hurts now, that is probable not going away at all. Bone chips (or bone spurs) have delayed or shorten a lot of major league baseball players careers. If you live in the U.S., than consider a operation. If under socialized  medicine, in another country, you may have to wait quite a while. Good Luck.

I saw a doctor and took X-rays.  thats how I know I have a chiped bone. Itslike if it was broke. they put a cast and a sling until I saw a specialize who deal with joint and rehab. I have what they call a motion  injury. they told in  2 weeks I should be doing some range of motion exerises. but it doesn't need anymore treat then to let the bone heal up.

Possible that NCBE should have explained the whole problem in the first place. Would that be considered a fracture rather than a chip breaking (splinter-fragments of bone) off? In any event, that program listed is just too much, too soon.

Geo: actually that just might be a huge downer for guy's who rely too much on getting a pump and light/moderate volume workouts and training 5 or 6 times a week. They tend to lose quite a bit of quality muscle tissure  starting from the second or third week away from the gym. Almost like a balloon deflating. Men who tend to use heavier weight, with compound exercises, seem to hold on to all that muscle tissue after a layoff much longer. PL'ers and Olympic lifters also come to mind. Good Luck.

When I first did the X-ray when I first went to the ER to said it was a motion fracture but when I saw the sport med doctor. He said it was a chipped bone. in both case they told me to keep moving it. so, I don't lost muscle. my sports med doctor told me to use my  inuried arm in everyday things.  My goal is to go back to some light weight training on May 1st but I can switch it, if my elbow is in pain. I feel that I might not need any rehab for re-gaining range of motion b/c,its getting better on its own

I'm going to change my train to just mon /wed /fri until July.

I know, I push myself a lot
