Question for women (INSOMNIA)......
« on: July 16, 2008, 02:54:01 PM »
Some of the women I train have had caesarian section, multiple times in fact, and I can't get their lower abs stimulated enough to burn the fat in that region effectively.

Any recommendations for specific exercises?

Reverse crunches are problematic due to lower back issues in many of these clients.

Leg lifts, same thing....

Would appreciate any help.

Until Insomnia arrives:

My first thought also. Might have that four letter word, Diet to be considered. With a focus on lower carbs for a start.Than when results are becoming positive and most fat is reduced, have them switch to something like a Mediterranean style diet. Exercise alone will not burn and reduce all that fat that much.

Might try lower ab rolls with elbows on the pads of a ab stand. Also knee up's while in that position, both legs or one leg at a time. Should be less strain on the lower back that way. This may bother some peoples lower back, but if the ladies can use a ab wheel, without any problem, than use one. Get's almost the complete ab wall. The more times you do a movement, even very slight at first,  the more stimulation/nerve impulse are brought into action. Bring that muscle area to a more than a normal state.

If this works for the ladies, how about giving us all at GetBig a split of the fee you charge them? Only seems fair. Good Luck.

I'm looking for anything, but not hoping specifically for spot reduction.

I mainly want to stimulate the area, get some strength back in that region.

If spot reduction happens later, that's a plus.

Thanks for the "knee up" suggestion.....

She's Italian so I'm not sure I can get her away from that pasta, the best I can do is have her on wheat pasta.

I can't give you a cut of my fee, but I can get you some supplements.....

get the client to lie on her back with   her hands palms faced down next to her sides. Then have her lift her legs up straight  while in that position tell her to imagine she is trying to touch the ceiling with her heels. the range of motion should be limited, the small end of her lower back should press down to the floor as she lifts, also she has to exhale when she lifts and hold the contraction. If you want to regress the movement have her do the same thing but with her knees bent and her knees will attempt to touch the ceiling.  2* 10-15 reps should do her.

Short answer....if a women has had multiple C secs or even one for that matter, loose skin is inevitable and of course the lower abdominal wall is weakend just from the surgery alone. In most cases with C secs, the loose skin will have to taken care of with cosmetic surgery. You can diet and get rid of the fat usually with no problem. But if the client is self conscious about that (most women are) then cosmetic surgery is the fix.

When strengthening, start with the deep abs first (transverse abdominis), static bridges or planks as some people call them for time is a good start.
