One night me and an Aussie mate were in kabuki cho in Tokyo and some skinny yakusa wannabes started yelling shit in Japanese to my mate. His Japanese was fluent so they started insulting eachother. Next thing my mate starts clobbering this mouthy guy. He comes close to knocking him out then starts laying in the boot. Japanese coppers come running around the corner, they get my mate up against the wall and he is thinking shit hes going to get deported for beating up this peice of shit. Its all looking pretty grim till they pull out the other guys ID and find out he is Korean. The cops then give my mate a pat on the back, were super polite and told us to have a good night hahahaha
Just for Kyomu here, I am not trying to paint a picture of Japan being all bad, I stayed there like 4 years. However the word for foriegner "gaijin" means outsider by definition, and thats what you are and will always remain as one. I have had friends that have been there 20 years(have gone a bit nuts) can read n speak, read and write better than the average Japanese and they are even more ostrasized because of it, and treated with great suspicion by Japanese aquaintences.
That being said I do miss the imo shochu, cha shu men and the shio fuku girls haha

Sure you always stay an outsider on the first view (like blacks in germany) but from my own experience i can say that everyone was extremly friendly to me when they realized that i was NOT american and could speak japanese.

No, she is from a VERY traditional house. 家はお寺ですよ。

But i was told a lot of times that i am "more japanese than any japanese". I know that's exaggerated, but i have to say that i really go along with people very good.

But my experience with foreigners in Japan is that it all comes down to how you feel yourself. A friend of mine got pissed everytime he was spoken to in english or regarded as an american. At sometime, he was pissed all the time because EVERY japanese assumed that any gaijin MUST BE american.
For me, it never was a problem. If someone talks to me in english, i answer in japanese very politly, telling the person i cannot understand english because i'm german. That's normally enough to win them over.

You just have to be relaxed, calm and live your life moment by moment, never dragging along the frustration of yesterday, than it's no problem, lol. (Easily said, it's actually quite hard to do so, but you get what i mean.)

Thats why you refered to living in the present. That is Satori no kyouchi.

In reality, its not hard. Just its impossible. When you give it up, you wil do it automaticaly. And you will notice that you have been doing it already since before.
