  • Violence is not the answer. It is the question.
Seems the physiques in those days weren't so drugged out and came across as half way attainable. Call me crazy, but I'd much rather look like Labrada or Cotrell than Ruhl.

The answer is "yes".

DaddyWaddy 2006.

It's been all downhill for the sport since then.

He epitomized everything that's right about bodybuilding, spitiruality, and giving girls "mop n glows".

peak with the mainstream?  that was much much earlier.   common folk would still know who won the AAU Mr America in the 1950s , 60s and even into the 70s.

bodybuilding has never been mainstream..  being as how i am probably older than most on this board, i was competing in the 80's.. it was never mainstream at all.. this argument is gone over ad naeseum every few months.. the only reason bodybuilding was on more was because we did not have the steroid hysteria that we have now.. we even hear steroids mentioned about hockey, mma, football, basketball, baseball ect ect.. back then, the media did not mention it at all.. it was a non issue... now, steroids are mentioned even about guys that have a fairly average build.. the cat is now "out of the bag" and bodybuilding suffers more for it because we "wear" our physiques.. so people now aware of gear point fingers.. not so much in the 80's..

as for physques that are attainable.. i dont want to see physiques that can be seen all over the gym.. do you want to watch basketball games or football games with guys who are as talented as a "pick up" game in the park.. no.. most want to see talent far beyond the average run of the mill guy.. we want to be wowed.. if you want a attainable physique to amire and aspire to then attend natural shows.. you will see that they need all the audiences they can get.. as for labrada and the like having attainable physques, not unless you are willing to do what they did with average genetics.. and trust me, it is way more than you think..

I'd say the summer of 1996 was when the bodybuilding waved crested and broke. After that, nothing but shore break and blown out mush. Sadness.

Was that when the Flex Magazine Workout with Boyer and Shawn was cancelled?

"you're" = contraction for "you are".

"your" = possessive form of "you".

When Muscle Media 2000 came out and Dan Duchaine wrote all of those articles, decades of the
"Workout hard and eat like the pros and you can look like them" lie was exposed. A lot of people had their eyes opened and the secret was out. Zero hope of attaining that look naturally and a many people lost interest  :-\

LOL...I've got news for you, son....this big "secret" was out looooooooooong before 2000 and Muscle Media. There were actually columns devoted to drugs and steroids in the old muscle mags. It was pretty much openly discussed.

People have never lost interest in trying to achieve a look they dont desire...99% of people don't wish to look like a world class BB.

but most people need to train and eat like a bodybuilder in order to achieve the look they desire... they think.. well i dont wanna be that big or that lean so i dont need to eat and train the way they do or be as dedicated as they are... but in fact these people probably need to train harder and eat cleaner and be more dedicated than bodybuilders are just to achieve their 'fitness model' physique that most people desire..

Post-Kovacs, it all went downhill, he was the man we all wanted to look like, and the girls wanted to be with.
