Loco, this is a really stupid position you are taking (IMO).  Miami is not a sovereign country.

Miami is not a sovereign country, no.  So what?  It is a city of one of the United States.  What about Hawaii?  It's one of the United States.

Yes, its about disrespect.   You are disrespecting the country you immigrated to and causing a unneeded burden by your unwillingness to learn it's language.  It affects everyone.  If you are going to immigrate to this country you should be able to contribute with out placing an unnecessary burden on it's infrastructure and people.  Come one come all, just speak english.

A country which does not have an official language.  And who said they are unwilling to learn?  It is capitalism.  The United States has not made it illegal for Americans to own Spanish speaking radio stations, newspapers, TV stations, businesses, etc.

By that logic it's impossible to learn a foreign language therefore there are no bilingual people in the world.

Where there's a will there is a way.  Where there isn't a will there is a bunch namby pamby BS like what you just wrote here.

Learning passible english is not beyond the reach of any person.   If i immigrated to Mexico, I would definitely learn passible spanish as i know passible tagalog.  (When i was in the field years ago, in my business, i got close to speaking passible spanish as it was a necessity of business i was willing to undertake)

I did not say that it is beyond their reach to learn English.  It is just either hard, or there is no need for them to learn it.  If there was a real need, not only would that motivate them to learn it, but it would also make it easier for them to learn it.

If you moved to Mexico, but you were surrounded by English speaking people, media and businesses then you wouldn't be learning Spanish so easily and quickly.

Stay on subject, I'm not talking about disrespecting the flag.  I'm talking about person's refusal to learn the overwhelmingly dominate language of the country they live in while people of other cultures have the common sense, and decency to learn it.

You are the one who made it an issue about respect.  And what other cultures are you speaking of?  What about the Chinese and other Asian cultures?  They have their communities in the US too where many of them do not speak English.

Obama is your new president , and he tells you to teach your children Spanish.  Your president has spoken...just kidding!    ;D

What ignorant condescending remarks?  What ignorant point?  I have stated nothing but facts and you get angry only because you don't agree.

I am not discussing the reason why Spanish is the dominant language in Miami.  I am discussing the reality of the present.  English was not the dominant language in North America before the Europeans settled there.

I wasn't talking about you going to Hawaii as a tourist.  I was asking, if you move to Hawaii, should you be kicked out if you do not learn the official language within 18 months?
your ignorant point that we should learn spanish b/c of miami and learn hawaiian b/c of hawaii...You make erroneous points to try and validate your ignorant point. The majority of the US speaks english its ignorant and yes disrespectful for ppl to move here and expect the majority of ppl in the US to learn spanish so that they can communicate with US. There is something you are missing about the Europeans and that is that it was a conquest and if thats the case then shit lets just kill them if you want to make that parrellel.

What you fail to see is that the reality of the present has to do with why the dominant language of miami is spanish and that is they will not learn english if they did then we wouldnt have this problem.

Are you really arguing that if you and your friends and family moved to another country instead of you learning their language you would expect them to learn yours? seriously and you dont see the ignorance and arrogance in that point?

Ironic how you keep being condescending to me and calling me ignorant while I'm trying to have a friendly discussion with you, yet I'm the one who is fluent in more than one language.  Why am I having to have this discussion with you in English?  Because you don't know Spanish, or do you?  This isn't the United States of America.  This is the World Wide Web.

The United States has no official language so English is not the language of the United States.  And Spanish being the dominant language in Miami is not a problem, or is it?  To whom is it a problem?

And plenty of Americans have been disrespectful to Hispanics for no good reason in the past, so forgive me if I don't cry with you and OzmO because you find it disrespectful that they will not speak English to you.

again i worked on for a land scaping company and custom home builder...i know enough spanish to communicate can i carry on a fluent conversation no, but i know enough you know why i know enough b/c they wouldnt learn english!!!!!!!!!!!

its a problem to them b/c it causes isolation it presents a problem to our government and society when they try and use resources that only communicate in english and we have to make special arrangements b/c these ppl wont learn.

LOL funny how you never answered my question.

If Miami was a country then you might have a point.  It's that way because its been allowed to happen.   My parents lived in Hawaii for 9 years until last year.  I've been to the islands about 30 times.   They speak ENGLISH there.   ;D

I'm not suggesting they HAVE to speak English only.  I'm saying they need to speak passible English.  What they speak on there own time is up to them.  But when there's an emergency or something similar and someone needs to communicate something important then knowing passible english can become life saving.

That's why you give people 18 months or 2 years to learn it.   there are whole communities that speak spanish only because they were allowed to.  If i moved to Mexico and put myself in a english speaking only community I'd still learn passible spanish.  Not cause i was forced to but because is stupid not to.

Actually not.  I live in California.  It's a real melting pot.   You have lots of Russian, Ukrainian, Korean, Chinese, Filipino, etc..  cultures here.  It's one of the few things i love about the area.  The thing is, I can't remember the last time i ran into someone from the cultures i mentioned that didn't speak english.   The only culture that's different that way is mexicans.

that crap needs to change.

I know OzmO.  Hawaii has two official languages, Hawaiian and English.  I was using Hawaii as an example because the State actually has official languages and one of them is not English.  The US has no official language.

Are there no China Towns in cities in California?  Are there not other Asian communities there where, especially the older population, do not speak English?

My point is that if you want this to change, Americans should get their representatives to declare English the official language of the US, stop providing services and government forms in Spanish, stop making the Naturalization exam available in languages other than English, etc.  As of today, with the way things are, Hispanics are not breaking the law or doing anything wrong by not learning English.  The US makes it easy for them to get by without English.

I bet if you ask around, you might find Americans who think that the US has an official language and that it is English.  And if they didn't know better, any visitor to the US might get the idea that the US has two official languages, English and Spanish.

The last time i was in China town in SF, I didn't have any encounters with non-English speaking chinese.  I'm sure there are some.  However, there are many young Mexicans who don't know English and are not trying to learn.

I suppose if they made it the official language they could began to get some leverage.  I'd vote for it.

I'm not trying to find reasons to deport people.  I'm trying to find reasons to keep them here.  ;D

I did answer it, in Spanish.  I told you to look at my post above:
