It seems that many here believe that to be so. The guys who came up in the 90s were extremely genetically blessed. Not only that, bodybuilding was more affordable and more mainstream than it is now. Something happened at some point where people stopped getting into bodybuilding. Does the rise of MMA have anything to do with it? Why has bodybuilding fallen off from where it was just 15 years ago?
Chris had one of the best "X-frames" of all time.
Not only were they more genetically blessed, but remember that the anabolics of the time were still quite clean compared to the stuff that's out there now. And for the most part, turning pro means immediate status as a drug addicted roid-raging freak...today, most folks are just too smart for that. Hell, I'm sure I could have at least scored a pro card if I decided to take juice...why bother ruining your health and being labelled by society as a freak when you could just channel your efforts into football, or MMA? And actually make some money?
Bodybuilding, pro bodybuilding, is dying a slow death. We go nuts over Heath, and while I think he's great too, Levrone owns him. So does Shawn Ray. So do about five other guys from the 90's era whose only obstacle to getting a Sandow was the immovable object Ronnie Coleman.
Who have ya got today?...Heath? Flex Lewis (who's really getting a push from Weider)...Peter F'ing Putnam?!?!?
All you'd need to get back to the glory days is ONE thing...decriminalizing anabolic steroids and allowing those genetic few to take it to the next level. Speaking of next levels, the 90's WAS the next level. There's really no comparison for the overall talent that decade had compared to modern pro bodybuilding. In my opinion, that is.
MORE drugs...and get to the RIGHT people (thanks Dennis Leary).
That is all.
