So what about Layne Norton then?

What about him?   He's still natural....thanks for asking.  Now go and try and deadlift 405 drugfree.

Dude deadlifting 405 once drug free is not a super feat. Strong, yes, but a feat that can be achieved without drugs. Before I ever touched anything I could pull over 400lbs.

Then you are much better than he is....according to MAXX....MuscleMcDouche couldnt perform the feat even after using.

I can totally agree. Suits are shit! I almost don't care how much people lift with them. But without them the powerlifters wouldn't be any stronger than the average strong guy at the gym. And the competitions wouldn't get any attentions.

this is bullshit no man can weight 148 and bench 585. no fucking way. unless the guy is deformed with nothing but a torso, stubby arms and a tiny head with no lower half and thick as a barrell.

and 'shirted' benched...oh brother ::)

yes, im not a fan of bench shirts and the other equipment powerlifters use (belt is ok i think). i know some powerlifters who are very anti drugs..yet they use bench shirts etc. i consider it a form of doping too (even when allowed). also i think its ridiculous with all those 2 inch presses. i saw a video with japanese powerlifter midote and his benches are silly. they are like lock outs.

yep let me arch my back so high that I only have to lower the bar 2 inches before my super tight shirt forces an amount of weight I have no business being under back up....then I can get up scream a little fist pound my homeboys and think about how strong I am....

I don't get the fucking point with shirts and suits..? If you're gonna assist the lift anyway why not bring over a goddamn forklift to do the work for ya?

Cause if you do a "non-gear" meet you're stuck lifting alone with 4 high school juniors in their wrestling singlets and the local 70 year old lady that has been "all the buzz" at the local curves.

Gear sucks, but until all the top guys stop doing geared meets (which isn't going to happen because they like their nice, fat inflated numbers) you're either going to have to make a stance against gear by competing against a handful of twinks that get embarrassed about their singlet "bulge" when a lady walks in the room or wear the gear and compete against the best lifters.

Ever seen a bench shirt rip?? I don't want to say its funny, but when you see one rip the weights comes right back down on the chest where it was pressed off of.
Haven't seen one rip but I was at the Mr Olympia or Arnold, can't remember which, and saw Gene try and do over a grand. Triple H said it best'' I don't think he's in a bench pressing mode right now.''
My gym has a few powerlifters. I've only seen one use a shirt and he had average weight on the bar. If your going to use a crane at least make if work a little.
They need to do away with them. My opinion. Belts may assist you but those shirts give you way more than you can handle naturally.

I watched a guy I know, that can bent just over 500 raw and natural, get his brand new bench shirt in. When they finally got this thing on him, he got under the bar and the shirt was so new it wouldn't stretch enough to even let the weight touch his chest and that was with over 500lbs. Lol. You can't tell me those shirt don't help your lift by at least 20% and more.

I agree.

I've done that at about 170lbs bw for a double and lifting is just hobby. I'd be substantially more impressed if that were benching and not deadlifting.

It's obvious the benefits bench shirts give, but do you honestly think these athletes don't realize the boost they get from them? Of course they do. Most, if not all, don't deny it. It's the nature of the sport, not the individual. If you're competing in powerlifting (in equipped meets) then that's the measures you have to go to. Unfortunately for the sport, the biggest success (in any terms really) comes from those federations and meets which promote equipped meets. Don't hate on the individuals, they're just abiding by the rules within that set competition. Granted, my view of powerlifting in general isn't the most positive one either, but the thing is it still takes time, training, and strength still to put up a 800lbs bench (even if the guy is only doing a raw 500 or whatever).

no one forces anyone to use equipment so i really dont understand how you meen. of course its up to the individual.  there are raw federations and nothing stops people from competing in those federations.

powerlifting hasnt progressed much at all since the 70s. equipment has..but not raw strength.
