I'm just not sure the timeline is completely correct but my point was that if there are Republican ideas in the bill and they want some credit for it then all they have to do is stand up and take credit.   No one is stopping them and in fact I'm sure the Dems would welcome it.   The problem is that the Repubs run away from bipartisanship even when the bill contains their own ideas.

As soon as the Dems include a Repub idea the Repubs automatically turn against it.

McCain and others voted against bills that they themselves sponsored as soon as the Dems jumped on board.

School fees already include health insurance. Forcing the parent's carrier to cover their children will cause their premium to rocket to duplicate what's already provided.

The ideal behind covering those with pre-existing conditions and not allowing them to be dropped is a good one, but the biggest benefactors to this bill is the healthcare industry, with an estimated 32 million new subscribers. Hence the pharmaceuticals and insurance providers supported this bill.
