The Heretic's Fork

This instrument was made of two little forks, one set against the other and of which the points rammed into the flesh under the chin and over the chest.

A little collar supported the instrument to prevent any movement of the victim. The forks did not penetrate into vital points, prolonging suffering before death.

Obviously, the victim's hands were tied behind his back.

Michel Foucault's book, "Crime and Punishment" offers a theory on how punishment has changed over the years from graphic displays of torture to a system of 'self-discipline'. Heavy going but interesting.

Bamboo is very useful.  When I was in China I couldn't believe all the bamboo they use in construction.  All of the scaffolding is made from bamboo.  They would tie them together with string or something.  Unreal.  But I guess it is stronger than steel in some cases.

Native americans used to bury people up to their necks in the dirt facing the sun with their eyelids sewn open. the would then go blind and have honey smothered over their eyes so the ants could eat them out

For the women:

"Used as a way to punish women, the breast ripper was a painful and cruel way to mutilate a woman's breasts.

The claws were used either hot or cold on the victim's exposed breasts. If the victim wasn't killed she would be scarred for life as her breasts were literally torn apart.

A common variant of the breast ripper is often referred to as "The Spider" which is a similar instrument attached to a wall. The victim's breasts were fixed to the claws and the woman was pulled by the torturer away from the wall; successfully removing both breasts."
