there's been aa few highlights since (flex '93, dorian '93, Ray '95, ronnie '99) but for most part, its just fucked up.....Paco is the perfect example of how it can go all so wrong.....Kovacs, Palumbo, even Ruhl......mass monsters who look dont have a clue

Sev' is full of shit most of the time but I must say I almost always agree when it's strictly bodybuilding related (he's good at outing so called "naturals" also). No, it's not particularly complex. Bodybuilders that preceded Zane and Nubret said the EXACT SAME THING, that their bodybuilders looked better than "modern bodybuilders".

The point, which you seem to have missed, is that EVERY ERA claims that their bodybuilders were the best and that the succeeding/current era of bodybuilders..."aren't as good", "all look the same", "are bloated steroid freaks", "don't have the comraderie that we had", etc.

The guys from the '50s said that about the guys of the 60s; the competitors from the 60s said much the same about the 70s and 80s bodybuilders. They, in turn, hurled the same comments at folks from the 90s/early 2000s. And now, those folks are talking that same stuff about the current competitors.

Bodybuilding has ALWAYS been a joke to the "larger public". That's the point. It was a joke during Vince Gironda's time, during Reg Park's time, during Arnold's time, during Serge's time, during Haney's time, during Dorian's time, AND during Ronnie's time.

People during Serge's time said the same thing about Serge that you're saying about Ronnie, that somebody that preceded Serge looked better than Serge did. And that most gym rants would prefer to look like that guy, instead. Have you ever read the old MuscleMag International issues form the 80s and early 90s? I have. Vince Gironda was saying almost the EXACT same thing about 80s/early 90s competitors, that you say about today's guys, virtually word-for-word.
