sounds like your brother took his work a little too seriously.

How so?  He was just telling the truth....I'm sure any of the guys who are cops will agree.  Lied to, cussed at, sometimes attacked, etc...

It's kind of weird, but when I worked the streets, I was lied to about everything when dealing with street thugs. I've arrested at least 2 guys with crack in their pants pocket who told me they slept over at a friends and accidently put their pants on that morning. 1 guy had a bag of rocks in his socks, and told me they were not his socks... Caught another guy who had climbed 10 ft up the side of a Bill Miller BBQ place, broke out and crawled through a small window to gain entry. When caught inside, with cash from the register in his pockets and the place had obviously been ransacked,  he said it was an elaborate fraternity joke, he was blindfolded and put in there by his buddies.. we begged him to tell the story in detail, to the judge.
But when I am off duty, I hope for the best in people and tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. I realized early on that working night shift, in the "bad" part of town, I was meeting mostly gang bangers and drug dealers at 2am and not the good folks. We arrested the same people over and over again, which might give the impression there were a lot of bad guys, but in fact, it was the same shits over and over. I do know some cops who bring their work home and those are the ones that only make it 10 yrs after retirement and die from a heart attack. Most of the cops I work with these days leave it at the job and don't even talk about it when we are off duty. I want to live a long time and enjoy the awesome retirement benefits.
