That's the one!  So much for my career as a literary critic.  :-\
Yeah, unfortunately, I made a mistake of posting a thread about three staples of children's novels, that went to bottom real quick

Flexb, any "tough guy" who picks a fight with a handicapped kid should be beaten by a mob of them. That ain't tough.

Plus, the handicapped kid was probably thinking he was gonna get a reward, like those off the hook chocolate chip cookies that the school bakery always cooked.

I couldn't agree more. This "tough guy" was in and out of group homes throughout public school and detention centers during most of high school. He eventually murdered a pimp here in toronto and got a life sentence. Within a month was put on the "dangerous offenders" cell block for seriously fukin another convict up. Within the next year he hung himself in that prison and died. I knew his older brother and was friends with this lunatic at one point. He was one of those guys that never seemed to have a fair chance at life. I knew him from grade 5 and he was nuts even then, punching teachers, fighting, doing drugs etc. I remember he would turn on me once every couple of months and want to fight. He was the only kid growing up I was scared of and thought could beat me in a fist fight. I never took him up on his offers to fight, 2 seconds later we'd be friends again.

Awww, dude was looking for love in all the wrong places. All he wanted was to be understood and attention. That's why he acted out, he got attention that he was missing. Then it was too late, and he decided it was best to end it all. Finally figured out, no one loves him, but missed the part on one must love themselves. Unfortunately, that part in the book of life is self written and self explanitory. Now, the handicapped guy is probably pushing carts at a store or doing some type  of menial job, and doesn't remember that guy or that fight, yet he still alive. Damn, sucks he actually pulled a reverse Darwinism on crazy dude. The irony...

I remember the "slow" guy messaging me on FB years ago. I was never friends with him and hadn't seen him in 15-20 years, but he still wanted to say hi. I said hi and asked what he was doing and he had some ok job working for some corporate company. I think he evolved as he aged and his "slowness" sped up lol. Kinda weird. He was in the special kids classes in most of public school so I know he was pretty slow. He used to rub his thighs when he sat at his desk and rock back and fourth smiling  :D

I worked with the kids a lot for a couple of years and never noticed any exceptional feats of strength, but when one of the kids failed to complete a lift, the end result would be some silent crying which would tear our hearts apart until one of the officials would offer a brief few moments of praise and the tears would stop and a big smile would take their place.

Working with those kids was quite an experience. A very rewarding experience.

One time at a track meet one of the kids took my hand and made me run with him in one of the events. I was the proudest guy on that field even though I had no chance of winning a metal.

The "strength" comes from unpredictability. For example it's impossible to hold someone down who can do anything at all. While the more "normal" citizens of society might be very predictable.
