Hate when someone aged less than 25 says "back in the day". What, like when you were ten?
Oh how anbout the guys who say "to make a long story short:" but they already talked to long
Or "that being said".Oh brother!
both this phrase and the one this thread is about ("having said that") are both good communication techniques/proper ways to transition from one bit of information to the next.
or ' not to mention......' then they mention it.
i really hate it when people dont know what to say so they say "it is what it is"....i have fired people for using that line instead of giving me a answer..bench
"I'm all..." "I'm like..." or the equally mind numbing, "brotha". The first two when said in person are like nails on a chalkboard and the third one especially so when it's spelled out in a forum such as this one. All three are from that vast canvass known as the uneducated and (more often and far, far, worse) terminally faux hip.Man, I can't believe I just spelled that ignorant word on a forum like this.
It's "know what I'm sayin'"Starting a sentence with LOOK (or listen) you hear it all the time on television and in the movies, but never in real life.
How about - I heard that!! or people that say As soon as possible as ASAP!!! - like they are calling in an emergency firemission...Hammerhead, Hammerhead. Recon Cobra.Emergency fire mission. Over.Gooks in the bush.Request firecracker salvo. Will adjust - ASAP ASAP
"At the end of the day, you know what I'm saying? Your point is moot, and having said that, I hope this helps."
"Basically".....I fucking hate that."Na-mean"...aka... "Do you know what I mean""Personally" then they continue with that they were going to say.
Agreed 100%...also, howbout when someone has to add "To tell you the truth", blah blah or "I'll be honest with you", blah blah....oh brother!
Nope. It's fluffy wording for psuedo-intellectual dickheads. I could be omitted or replaced with a one-word transition. It's best to speak in simple, short words. It's all about the substance of what you say. Not how flowery and fluffy you can make the words.
What's the big deal? Words and phrases are there to be used.
It's just annoying when someone tries to be Hemmingway and get all fruity with their language. You're in college. I'm sure you've met tons of guys like this who think they are hot shit. I know I did.
