Miscellaneous: Misha began training in 1990 and spent one year primarily focused on boxing. In 1992 he switched to Olympic weightlifting where he quickly excelled and became the Russian champion. Misha's first love is Olympic weightlifting and he is the only strongman who actively competes in both sports. At the 2006 Arnold Classic, after placing third in the strongman contest, Misha gave an exhibition of his Olympic lifting skills at the Arnold junior event on Sunday morning. He clean and jerked a whopping 529 pounds in that exhibition—an amazing lift given what he'd just been through over the past two days. In 2009, he gave an exhibition on Sunday morning on the main stage of the Expo Hall where he clean and jerked 501 pounds on the very bar used by the legendary Vasily Alexeyev the first man to break the 500 pound barrier in the clean and jerk. In 2010 Misha made a great showing at the TWI World's Strongest Man Contest, finishing third behind Zydrunas Savickas and Brian Shaw.
