Dennis newman and mike francois are previous MM competitors

I'm sure they were clean at the time

Newman and Francois competed in the first MuscleMania series in '91. Those weren't tested and they were national qualifiers. ESPN had a 900 hotline for the fans to vote for a MuscleMania Grand Champion. Of the five MuscleMania winners (Mike Francois - Chicago; Ted Lopes - Rhode Island; Nick Silleti - Atlanta; Dennis Newman - San Diego; and Sal Princiotta - Philadephia), Francos got the nod in '91 for MuscleMania Grand Champion.

Julio Noguera won the MuscleMania Grand Champion award in '92.

MuscleMania started drug testing in '93. They stopped being national qualifiers and ultimately MuscleMania left NPC altogether.

Thanks man,

I remember when francois won it, but didn't know the testing status and the voting system, ESPN actually covered the shows back then, and I remember it was a big professional production, bodybuilding version of Idols!

Does the olympia or arnold get any coverage in the states at all nowadays?
