Completely fucked up.  He's lived in San Diego all of his life, he's a native born American and is told that he has to fucking walk home.  What kind of bullshit is that??  Poor guy had to fly to Mexico City and walk across the border like an illegal alien....

An American student was forced to walk across the U.S-Mexico border after being placed on the government’s no-fly list.

Despite having lived in San Diego all his life, Kevin Iraniha was told he was barred from flying into the U.S. on Tuesday when he attempted to check in at a Costa Rica airport, following his master's degree graduation ceremony.

Along with his two brothers and father, the 27-year-old, who is a Muslim, was detained and questioned by FBI agents at the U.S. Embassy in San Jose.

They gave no explanation but my problem with the whole matter is why not check his bags and him before boarding the plane.....it would have been easier than making him walk for 2 days in Mexico to go home...not to mention that 2 days earlier he was allowed to fly to Cosa Rica to graduate.


He's an American citizen and he has a right to due process.  We can't just go to a "guity before innocent" state of affairs.  This could have been any of us.

Did American soldiers kill all of those people in Iraq? Why do certain populations kill people over cartoons? Why have muslims (Jordanians) killed so many Palestinians - much more than Israel - if that is such an important cause for them? Why does the Middle East produce so few scientists? Why is the doctrine of martyrdom only popular in certain areas? Why do certain countries in certain regions think women are inherently inferior and should'nt even have the right to drive? Why is Middle Eastern political culture so accepting of violence? Why has the region stagnated for centuries? You're ascribing things to me I've never said, nor do I believe: I never said the USG is saving the world, I never said the USG was fighting for justice or peace, and I never advocated for any military campaign. You seem very emotional and it may be difficult to have a rational discussion but I'll try. The point I was making asking that slew of questions was to get you to consider whether all of the Middle East's problems are caused by US policy. Plainly, there is a condition of dysfunction that predates even the US's founding as a nation.

I know it is easy to blame the US for everything because we have a very interventionist foreign policy. In addition, we are genuinely responsible for some amount of the disorder in the ME, as for example when we overthrew the democratic regime of Mossadegh in Iran. Nonetheless, the ME's continued slide into political and cultural dysfunction relative to the rest of the world has been non-stop for centuries. If I were a muslim I would want to fix whatever it is about my culture and political system that makes my society so dysfunctional, weak, and susceptible to foreign intervention to begin with.
