  • Fear is proof of a degenerate mind.
Like I said,  just say thanks,  and I will either see you at the wedding or just see you later.
So then what would have been the point of that if they refuse?  (other than to make you look like a schmuck, which admittedly would be funny and would be something I would do to someone if I had a daughter and they actually asked me)

Its a respect thing for the long term.  Shows you care about what your in laws think, even if you really don't

The point is just to show the father,  hi guy,  here is the plan, while it seems like I am asking,  it is really just more polite than saying your daughter is mine now,  but I am passing out like a question to let toy feel like part of the plan.

That would be funny.

At the end of the day it is just a formality. If the father said no,  I really would not entertain any sort of conversation why he thinks I cannot marry his daughter. At which point he would realize through smarts or if I had to tell him,  this was just me being polite.

All I know is after I went to my soon to be in laws w my intentions and plans - they were like amazingly cool to me and opened the checkbook for all sorts of shit.

If papa-in-law said "no", I would just say thank you. Tell him I appreciate his position and that they will receive an invitation to which they can RSVP.

Can't make everyone happy. Why worry about it? If you make an honest attempt and it fails, there's no sense in worrying about it. Ain't no body got time for that.

I did. it was a sign of respect and was appreciated very much by her father. He's a good man who I respect a lot, and the appreciation and gratitude that he had for me approaching him as a man and asking him meant a lot.

Unless the girl doesn't have a dad or he is a piece of shit, I'm thoroughly confused as to why any of you "hard asses"  do not understand why this is a decent thing to do.  :-\

some advice.................. dont get married, if you do get married you will kick the hell out of yourself in about 6 months, remembering this post!

this. everybody thinks they are different. look at the divorce rates, 50%. women initiate it 70% of the time, for no reason at all. I wish you the best but its a terrible fucking idea to get married in the west. good luck. ;D

FYI - I asked my GF's father for permission first to keep it old school.  They approved.

Just because the Supreme Court struck down DOMA doesn't mean you have to run out and get married!   ;D
