Almost all animals need to be watched around kids. We had a bunch of rabbits when I was a kid. I go to feed them and one of the fuckers bit me out of nowhere.

Obviously that is not a real big deal, but it did hurt, and my fucking step-mother made me go to the hospital to get checked for rabies when she caught me cleaning up the wound.

And I also had a little incident with a damn kitten of all things. Tried to help the little sucker cause it was on the streets.. My wife at the time had a cat. It did not go well between the two. I end up with a scar because the kitten goes nuts when I pick it up to stop the situation.

You just never know, and the stats say pits are by far the most potentially dangerous dogs out there.

Everyone can argue about the stats (because they're bullshit) but I hope that we can all agree that children ALWAYS need to be supervised around wild animals. People neglect their children all too much and when an animal harms them, it's really unfair that all the blame is placed on the animal. The parents created the danger and a lot of the responsibility falls on their shoulders. You don't get to simply brush it aside because the animal caused the harm. Who owns the animal, and who left the kids alone with it?

Worst animal attack in my direct family was when my brother was bitten by a pet rat and got insanely sick. My personal worst attack was a cocker spaniel. My uncle had close to 30 dogs bred for fighting and protecting drug houses, and the two house dogs (fucking piece of shock cocker spaniels) were the only ones that ever attacked a child. Almost ripped my eyeball out and I still have a huge scar.

Great uncle. White trash, piece of shit biker scum. Had tons of pits and rotties and would beat the shit out of them and have them fight, etc. It was nasty. My family doesn't talk to him because he's a loser. That was one of the last times I ever saw him.

Good people don't have 7-10 of any animals, especially pitbulls. I have a pitbull and they're very misunderstood and exploited animals. If I beat the shit out of mine and kept it in a pen with other animals that I shit kicked and neglected, I'm sure she'd be a killing machine as well... but good people don't do that. Only pieces of shit. You can do that with any dog.

Although I do not have a Pit Bull, I completely agree with you. I've had dogs my whole life. They have been many different breeds and ranged in size from the 18 lb. Rat Terrier I have now to a 120 lb. Great Dane. Every dog I've had has been great and loving and not the least bit aggressive or mean. I think most dogs give back what they receive.

Bingo. And I don't profess to be any sort of dog whisperer, but if you just walk the damn things a few times a week and give them some attention they generally turn out to be awesome. Dogs are affectionate as hell. Even if you don't want to cuddle, they'll want to. My pitbull is actually the worst for that. She loves to cuddle and if you ignore her she'll pout and let you know you're a dick. None of my pets ever went bonkers. But all the bad dogs I've ever met had stupid owners. Same thing with people. They breed stupid children. It's a people problem. Dogs are a lot more faithful and reliable than people. People are shit.

The American Pitbull Terrier is a great breed, especially for families and children. They have outstanding temperaments, one of the highest among all breeds, are very intelligent, playful, and loving dogs. Unfortunately some of these fools who have no business owning a dog create a bad image for them. It should also be noted that almost all of these so called "pit attacks", are not actually APBT's or AmStaff's, they are mixed breed dogs, who are classified as "Pits" because there is some similarity in the look. Pitbull is a generic term, not an actual breed.

My current dog was listed as a pitbull because he's brindle. ::) The vet had to write to the city and tell them he was not in order for them to change his license. ::)

Threads like these go over much better with actual dog-owners. Doesn't matter what breed.

The Media and a certain football player put the Pits under the spotlight.

German Shepards, Rotties and Dobies have all been there, just to name a few.

Also, measuring the strength of a dogs jaws is nearly impossible, so that argument need not be debated. It usually appears in these threads at some point.

You can have a crap puppy born with an attitude defect in ANY breed, but for the most part (99%) it's all in how you raise them and with whom. If you raise them with love, they know nothing else. It's that simple and it doesn't just apply to animals.

Pretty soon another breed of dog will have it's "turn in the barrel" ~

You wanna know something about Pits that most people don't know? They are extremely sensitive. They get their feelings hurt like no other dog I've ever seen. It's true. Trust me.
agree 100% my pits are so attached to me that anytime I get angry they pout and tuck tail and look at me out of the corner of their eyes until I call them over and let them lick my beard will I scratch their back ..... and immediately start acting like lil fuckes again ..... its funny

I have no love for this breed at all. Any dog can be miss treated and become mean. Yes a lot of assholes own these dogs for all the wrong reasons. They have small man syndrome and very insecure, ive seen them at the parks with these dogs when i am there with my kids. We just leave the park. The reason i have no love for this breed is that while all dogs can become mean when mistreated.......none have the propensity to be as lethal a killing machine as the pitbull.  Face it a pitt bull is a bad assed dog that can rip the shit out of you and are near impossible to stop without a gun. Other breeds are not like this. They can usually be kicked away or hit with a stick or bat and they will back down. A pitbull will just become more agressive and rip the shit out of you until you until you fucking die

Back to the case at hand. Kids uncle was in court today, held over on child neglect charges. Bail at 100k, I think.  5 pits were put down.

Only a Pit owner would know this, and this is very true.  A few weeks ago I was in a real shitty mood, took my dog out for a walk and he was very excited to see me as I had been working 90+ hours that week so hadn't seen him much.  He was jumping all around and very happy and I wasn't in the mood and I raised my voice to tell him to stop.  His head immediately dropped down and he ran to his bed.  He was depressed for 2 days after that.

The walking and socializing the dog from when it's young is key. If you don't do that with that breed you are asking for trouble. If you do it you should be fine.8 dogs in the back yard is not doing any of the above.

Yes they are inbred and dumb as shit. Slaughter all Pits on-site right away.
X2. I caught one smelling my hound dog's ass one time.

Yea he gets walked 2-3 hours in the morning and 2-3 at night every day, I take him to work some days and he socializes with a couple of poodles, australian sheep dog and several other toy sized dogs.  He's never shown aggression toward other dogs or even cats of any size.  We take him to off leash dog parks twice a month so he can play around with other dogs.  He's probably the best dog I've ever had, sweet as hell.

Most people just throw their dog in the back yard and think that's enough for exercise which is fucking stupid.  Dogs need to be walked with their masters and have a daily routine that's structured.  They're a lot like children in that regard.
