I prefer wine most often. Beer is good with barbeque and at fests in Germany. German beer is the best. German wine not so much. French wine is fine as are some Oregon and California wines. Either beer or wine is fine in moderation. I little alcohol is actually good for you. Too much alcohol is good for no one.

depends on what I'm eating... duh. when you drink as often as I do (which is about 5 drinks a year. haha), it doesn't really matter.

pasta with red/meat sauce = a glass of cab

(pasta with creamy sauce = I'm drinking a fucking glass of water.. or milk.)

sushi or big 1/2lb rare burger with provolone, on a potato bun, with bbq sauce  = a glass of Guinness

after 1 beer or 1 glass of wine, I feel toxic the next day.

California is on top right now with the craft brews. Their pale ales are the best: Sierra Nevada, Mirror Pond, Firestone, Figueroa Mountain, etc. Fantastic.

Gimme some names.

I would if I knew them. I am not much of a beer drinker regardless of where it comes from. Here is a link to what someone a lot more experienced than me with regards to Oregon's microbrews has to say, http://www.portlandmonthlymag.com/bars-and-nightlife/beer/oregon-beer-guide-2013/articles/50-best-oregon-beers-july-2013

You got me, Prime. Deschutes, which makes Mirror Pond (that I mentioned) is in Oregon. I thought Cali. Good link, my friend.

Australian wines are some of the best in the world. Every country has our wine because it's very sought after.

That has nothing to do with anything, sweetheart. You assessed that Australian wines were the best in the world. Most of your "elite" wines are sought after by a specific crowd (the Robert Parker fans) who likes full-bodied, massive, un-subtle wines that taste like oak and raspberry jam. Actually, you don't find many australian wines in good restaurants in France or Italy. just a very small selection while you'll have a phone book of an French or Italian wine list. Wine just happens to be a very marketable product nowadays. Your statement was a dumb as some people saying that Bordeaux wines are the best just because everybody knows the name "Margaux" or "Petrus".

You're just a bit too eager to swallow.  ;)

I INTENTIONALLY used the word "drinking" instead of "swallowing" to avoid a comment like this! Berthaaaaa  ::)

My mom went to Argentina.  (No, seriously, my mom went to Argentina.)  Came back a Malbec aficionado.  Stuff tastes like gym sock water to me.  Apparently it's the shit in Arentina tho.

I sure wasn't.  It's favored there tho so maybe it's a regional grape thing.

Kinda like Pinot Noir, which I really like, provided etc.  All the gabbing about Aus wines in this thread notwithstanding, I must nevertheless advise the perspicacious lush to steer well clear of Aus Pinots since they're all goddamn shithouse.  Except for Picardy, which was perfumy but really really good, and also really beyond my usual price range.

West Aus Shiraz, ya can't go wrong.  Flavorsome stuff too.  Sadly, I prefer whites unless they're serving mutton.

Australian wines are some of the best in the world. Every country has our wine because it's very sought after.

Judging from the abundance of Australian wines at the supermarket, most with very reasonable prices, they must be popular with certain customers.
