I suspect they do research on the topic using whatever the established approaches in the field are (I'm not a historian).

I also suspect there are historians in all places of the world so I am not sure what you mean by "on the other side of the world".

Christianity started in that region and well established christian communities existed there.

As for the threat ISIS vs America - the US has been a bigger threat because of the way it's been used as a global wrecking ball and instigator... of course it would be interesting to know who these people behind the machine are?
Other nations suck even more but they could have been neutralized more elegantly or left alone.

It's a sad fact that not everyone is as good as we are.  Just the other day I saw two people having a disagreement.  I'm not totally sure what it was about but it seemed serious.  I said please stand down, sir.  It's ok, I'm an American.  I'm here to help.  They became agitated and may have presented a potential threat so I was forced to shoot them which resolved the conflict.

No you can`t.  As Hitchens said, they were already there before any US intervention.

No you can`t.  As Hitchens said, they were already there before any US intervention.

Certainly the in-fighting between the larger tribes was there, but to become organized and start this amount of, dare I say, "terror" was not present before we ousted Saddam right?

The whole video is good, but at about 4:30 on, Hitchens deals with the idea that the US is to blame for escalation (which its not) and the fact that Saddam was actively harboring the terrorists, particularly many that are now ISIS commanders and leaders.

The indian thread seems to have disappeared currently, but some of it relates to this thread. Prior to the 2003 invasion many predicted iraq would be reduced to gang warfare once the US pulls out. This is what has happened. Isis grows with every air strike. This appears to be fact. Great for US arms trading in the Middle East though so you still win don't worry.
