No.

Are you an American?

Hopefully, yes. -Born in South Orange, New Jersey. Forefathers came over on the Mayflower and fought in the Revolutionary War, I am a member of the SAR (Son's of the American Revolution).

I vote in ever election and often get involved in campaigning for candidates I support.  How about you?

No contest. I just get tired of folks who do nothing besides complain about how bad things are. You'd be surprised at how often these same people are completely politically inactive, often not even bothering to vote or possibly even register.

Seems to me if something thinks everything is going to hell in a hand basket in the U.S., they'd might be happy living elsewhere. Then again, probably not.

One of the reasons ineffective jerks get elected to political office is because no one else runs. You'd be surprised at the number of appointments are made to political office.

Forefathers also on the Mayflower,  also  relatives fought in the revolutionary war, Mexican War, Civil war, Spanish American war, WW1, WW2, Korea, Nam, Granada, Panama, Persian gulf 1 and 2, and served multiple tours in Afghanistan.   I have carved statues from marble of our foounding fathers, have the both the DOI and Constitution memorized, wrote a total of 241 easays on what it means to be an American in my life time.  I own 36 American Flags.  I have never owned a foreign made car.  I have 3 cars, they are White Ford f350, a RED Chevy Camero, and a Blue Dodge Magnum.   I don't buy products that aren't made in America.  I own only 2 neck ties, and they are both American flags, I open x-mas presents on x-mas morning NOT x-mas eve.  My wife has a flower garden that looks like a American flag in the spring time.  I have season tickets to the Yankees.   Have toured all museums in DC 12 times. I have dog, go to football games, own 2 guns, and bleed RED WHITE AND BLUE when cut!

Well not really.
But i am an American, with the right to complain and do something about it.

What do you think of the ACA and how peeps on individual policies who make over 45K/year  have had their premiums hiked up 50% to 300%?

Yes. This is all good stuff, especially you bleeding red, white and blue. With respect to this, your wife's garden and your neck ties, you definitely have me beat on the patriotic front. But the question remains are you politically active? Do you vote?

I am not saying people shouldn't speak up when they see something is amiss, because we definitely should. What I am saying is that actions speak louder than mere words. Criticism without action rarely changes anything.

I agree people who complain and do nothing to try and change things can be irritating.  But that's one of the great things about this country.  People have the right to sit on their butts and complain, but do nothing about changing things.  And none of that is a test of citizenship, patriotism, etc.

Neither is the fact your ancestors came over on the Mayflower.

I agree that just because one has a rich American heritage it also means they are patriotic. This information was in response to Ozmo asking me if I was an American. If he'd asked me if I was patriotic, I might have answered differently.

What exactly do you think is an example of patriotism? Citizenship is something some of us are born into and some people have to apply for after they immigrate. It is my personal belief that it takes more than just flying the American flag to be a good citizen. Anyone can fly a flag and anyone can do no more than complain about things. If that is all they do then their contribution as a patriotic citizen is questionable, at best.

A good citizen and patriot (not sure they are synonymous) is someone who loves his or her country, obeys the law, works hard, and tries to make their community a better place.

I don't think flying a flag makes someone a patriot or a good citizen.  But, it's a likely indication that the person loves his or her country.

I don't think anyone who does nothing but complain is unpatriotic or a bad citizen.  It's not even questionable.  Some people just choose to work and take care of themselves and/or their family without getting involved in the political process.  Nothing wrong with that at all.  I don't like hearing those people complain, but I certainly don't question their patriotism or whether they are a good citizen.

I have more respect for you now that I know you speak with your actions. You must admit, it bears asking this question because if you are like me, you know more than a couple of people who do nothing beside complain about things.

In a healthy democracy there will be folks all over the political spectrum. I do not expect everyone to have the same views I do all of the time. Even my opinion about things political change with different circumstances. For example, I supported the concepts of the Affordable Healthcare Act and still do. On the other hand, the fact that it's launch is fraught with problems and failures is a complete embarrassment (or should be) to those who promoted it.

Just so you know, I live in Oregon where to date, not one person has been able to sign-up on our state's failed website. Instead folks are asked to signup in written form and the date to be enrolled has been extended through March. It is a total mess. No one has taken responsibility for this either. There has been much buck passing, including from Governor Kitzhaber. Two of the top people hired to get the website launched have resigned. Each was paid nearly $200,000 a year with taxpayers' dollars. It is an embarrassment all the way around.

See, I can complain too.

Come next election, if Kitzhaber (also known as Kitzrobber) runs again, I doubt I will support him. He's a failure to date and he's already served three terms as Governor.

Okay, I can except this. People who do little more then complain about government serve a purpose too. They inspire conversation and hopefully other's to take some action. However, when folks imply that this is the shittiest country in the world and that everything we do is wrong, I fail to see how this is patriotism.

Edward Snowden, who has presently taken political asylum in Russia, believes he a U.S. patriot and probably a good citizen too. Others disagree. I think only time will tell. What's your feeling about this?

Snowden is a traiter.  If the only thing he did was disclose the NSA spying on American citizens, I'd have a different opinion about him.  He would still need to be punished, because there is a right way to be a whistleblower, but I wouldn't view him in the same light.

By sharing information with numerous foreign countries about us spying on them, he lost whatever moral high ground he may have had.  Those disclosures did nothing to protect the privacy of American citizens.  I hope he spends the rest of his life looking over his shoulder, assuming we don't capture him (or take him out).

This shit is absolutely criminal.  Lies, lies lies, everywhere.  When are people going to start holding politicians and their accomplices (Jonathan Gruber) accountable for their crimes?  They are willfully misleading us, robbing from us, destroying the entire country from top to bottom, and then laughing about how stupid we are.  How on earth is this acceptable?

I'm not a Democrat, I don't vote for people that promise me shit.

Ideally, I vote for people that have the experience and judgement to make difficult decisions.  Unless a commie POS like Obama is running.  Then I just vote for the other guy and cross my fingers.

because the national media is not doing its job. If they accurately reported the situation and the facts instead of whitewashing and sugar coating  every single thing for obama, A LOT more of the general public would be awakened
