Investments.

Get an education, learn a trade and buy your own tools etc etc.

A reasonable answer, but needing a car is not necessarily an indulgence at 22.  A used vehicle is probably the way to go.  Bah!

What else would you recommend a 22 year old guy spend his money on?

Alcohol, drugs, hookers. Spill the rest.

Find a clean used F-150 if you want a full size truck. The 3-valve 5.4L from '05 to '10 ish has a funky spark plug design that needs to be changed by dealer at 100k...but other than that those trucks are a good value. The 4.6L is a very solid motor although a good bit less power. That 4.2L V6 is really a workhorse as well if you aren't towing. I've had all the Ford truck motors at some point - F-150s/250s/Excursion. I wouldn't buy an F-250/350 with the 5.4L at all, not enough motor for that platform and used ones might be overworked. The V10 is fine though if you can handle 10-12mpg.

Disagree with Bay on a used Tacoma. Where I'm at the used ones are 80% of what a new one is with 100k on the clock. Reliable truck but the 20k model is shite for options...if you want extra cab and 4wd you are north of 30k.

A young person of modest means should not be buying a vehicle laden with expensive and unnecessary "options"; he should be buying a bare bones model consistent with his budget.  Bells and whistles will come later when you have more money.  A bare bones Tacoma is a better value than a tricked out truck by other unnamed manufacturers.  The fact that used ones are 80% of new should tell you something about the quality of a used Toyota.  That said, I would prefer to buy new and would scrounge up the money to do so if I were 22 and on a budget.  Too expensive you say?  Well, that's what webcam sessions are for.  ;)

I'm fairly confident $15-20k will buy you a piece of shit.  Get a car if this is your budget.

Has no one asked the question- does flinstones actually have 15-20k? I highly doubt it. Unless he won the lottery(no doubt a thread wouild have been made) or parents gave him the money he doesn't in all honesty have that kind of money. 5k at the most from saving for months on end working 2 crappy minimum wage jobs like most 22 year olds with no education or relevent skills.

Neither. Buying is the lesser of the two evils. Leasing sucks.

Buy a slightly used car, especially if you are a road warrior.

If you want new, that price will get a small crossover.
If he wants a truck, go used. Ford or Toyota, something cheap to fix.
