I think the recent batman films did well by appealing to the masses and pseudo-intellectual film buffs.

Burton's batman looked visually the best,  batsuit, batmobile, gadgets and a really gothic looking city. Could have done with the scope and scale of nolans films as they were lacking in action and stunts etc.

I feel that superhero movies are still trying to reach their potential.  Nolan did a great job or taking out the cartoonish aspect but I think Batman still hasn't been done to its potential.  Same with Spiderman.  Superman sucks and needs a new vision.  He needs to be more real, more hurt, less fan boy.
