"The World Drugs report for 2012 is out and it shows that 230 million people around the world - 1 in 20 of us - took illicit drugs in the last year. The report also says that problem drug users, mainly heroin - and cocaine-dependent people number about 27 million, roughly 0.6% of the world adult population."
I was talking about all drugs, not just illicit ones, but you seem to suffer from the usual blindspots the average citizen does, if the drugs are legal then they aren't really drugs.
Plus, your maths seems all fucked up 230 million people is 1 in 30. And you are right, a tiny minority have a problem with drugs, the majority can use them with no problem, just like gambling and alcohol. Just one more illogical reason as to why there is a war on drugs.
Not only this, in America in 2013, an estimated 24.6 million Americans aged 12 or older—9.4 percent of the population—had used an illicit drug in the past month. One can only imagine how many Americans have actually used illicit drugs at some point and not just in the last month. Thanks to Americas insatiable appetite for drugs Mexico is now run by billionaire cartel operators. America has the World's Highest Incarceration Rate, thanks to it's love of drugs combined with the War on drugs. Considering illicit drug taking is a reaction to a stressful and miserable environment, one can only imagine what a shithole America is for so many people.
