Turbo props are more fuel efficient than jets and can fly almost as fast, but they will never be as smooth and quiet.  The perception by the general public is that they are cheaper and more outdated.

If you're used to piston powered airplanes then a turbo prop is a huge step up.  I've flown in a brand new Piper Meridian turbo prop.  It was amazing how smooth and quiet the engine was compared to a piston powered airplane.  For reference, the Pratt and Whitney engines in the PC-12 and Caravan run about $800,000 a piece.

I would agree with you, all three turbo props you mentioned are impressive aircraft.  The de havilland Twin Otter is still being produced by Viking air.  They can literally take of and land from anywhere.  They are the jeep of the aerospace industry and very popular with third world airlines around the world.  The Caravan is a favorite of Fedex.  They have a fleet of 241.

Yeah, I'm aware. I'm an ATP, I flew jets for quite a few years.  I considered taking a step down To fly a caravan for one Of The fedex feeders but ultimately decided to leave the industry. I can't recall how to post YouTube videos but my favorite is the otter landing in st Bart's and Saba.

What models of jets have you flown?

I flew mostly for the regionals so my experience with different equipment is limited. CE-550 and CL-65 (200 and 900) are the only jets I've flown. I did get to sit in the Jumpseat of plenty of other airliners but no operating experience myself. One of my old students flew twin otters for a skydive company and I'm still kicking myself for not taking him up in the offer of flying with him. I just really amazed by the performance capabilities of otters, caravans, and pilatus.

I'll have you know that Clotaire Rapaille, the marketing guru, once said that small plane-flying will be the norm in the future. Once they find a way to park them things in an urban environment, the industry is going to skyrocket.

   Gulfstream V / 550 / 650
   Global 7000

For example, four couples could charter an Embraer Phenom 300 from New York to Miami and back for $6300, or $787 per person.  The Legacy 500 would be $1100 per person for six couples.  It could be worth it for the unique experience.

I'm in the aviation industry and these numbers are way off.  You're typically looking at a minimum $20,000-$25,000 to charter a Phenom 300 for that trip.  You're forgetting to figure in the dead head (the plane's flight back to it's origin location) that you're responsible for as well.  If you own the plane you can keep it down at the facility but that's going to cost you in the range of $400/day and up.  The best bet right now is the Jetsmarter App that let's you book single seats of deadhead flights at a drastic savings.  Bodybuilding related b/c I drink my protein shake when flying.

Anyone know why they stopped or are stopping 747's flying in Saint Martin? That's was always pretty cool to watch.

Boeing 737 max, YES!

Boeing's taking a beating in the single isle market.
Max 8 orders: 2435
A320neo orders: 3385

Max 9 orders: 418
A321neo orders: 1375

That's a $190 Billion dollar backlog for Airbus and they've already delivered 32 A320neos.  Boeing won't begin delivery of the Max 8 until May 2017.

The A321neo LR has enough range to cross the Atlantic allowing airlines to fly from the East coast to many cities in Europe.

Palimboism, do you work in the aeronautics field? You are very well versed in all things plane.

Yes, I've worked at two aircraft companies.

The Cessna Denali will compete directly with the Pilatus PC-12.  As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.  In this case I would agree with Cessna.  Pilatus got it dead on with the PC-12. It's by far the best single engine turbo prop in the world and there's no need to deviate with perfection.

I don't fly in anything with a propeller. I have a hard enough time flying let alone a machine that defies gravity....with a propeller.
