A quick death, instead of hours spent upside down, in the dark, wet environment, in a confined space where you can't move your arms, probably hard to breath, and your fluids and blood pooling in your brain. With people talking and singing to you to keep your spirits up. And then others realize that they will have to break your legs to get you out.
You slowly die. And then people mourn. Your body is not taken from that place, but the cave is sealed off with your body still in it, stuck in the same place.

Very scary stuff.

It's even scarier that this guy, who clearly demonstrated an inability to use common sense, was able to get into medical school.

I wonder if they thought that in order to get him out, that his legs would break, so no go? But, he's dead. I would at least think that they could find a way to get his deceased body out for a decent burial, and then seal it off.

And so now, this has made me look up cave diving, and various forms of penetrative diving. As well as urban exploration aka draining aka urban spelunking, canyoning and mine exploration.

It might has been his size. I think he and his brother broke up into a team to find the birth canal. And he found a waist deep hole to explore and went in head first (unfortunate mistake). He kept going when he couldn't turn around (unfortunate mistake #2) and found that fissue and he thought that it would open up, so went he first down into that (unfortunate mistake #3). Got stuck even more when his diaphragm expanded.
The whole thing of trying to squeeze into places that you don't know has an exit, especially when you go head first and have little wiggle room is a recipe for disaster. We are not built like snakes or worms.

Never in a million years.  I had an MRI a few years ago (or as I called it, "the tunnel of terror").  As soon as my shoulders were pinched in and I couldn't move them, I panicked and they had to drug me up with Klonopin or something before I would go back in.  

They suck and I have had way too many!!  Even the short tube freaks me out!

Cervical spine is hard because your neck hurts the whole time.
