This is 20 minutes from where I live, and 5 minutes from my wife's mom lives. This place was at the corner of Moorpark Road and the 101 Freeway, about 3 minutes away from the Oaks Mall in Thousand Oaks, and 2 minutes away from Gold's Gym Thousand Oaks (Janss Marketplace area), but on the other side of the freeway.
13 - 12 killed (11 inside and 1 police officer) and the asshole himself.
Thousand Oaks Shooter ID’d as 28-Year-Old Marine Veteran Ian David Long who Used a .45-Caliber Handgun. The 28-year-old United States Marine Corps veteran, who lived in Newbury Park, was identified by Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean during a news conference Thursday morning. He was a former Cal State University Northridge student who last attended in 2016, the school said in a statement. The gun used by Long was a .45 caliber Glock 21 designed to hold 10 rounds plus one in the chamber. The weapon had been modified to hold extra rounds. A neighbor of Long’s said the veteran had served a tour in Afghanistan
Ron,
Were the specifics of this information provided by a news source?
A Glock
(semi-automatic handgun) isn't designed to hold any specific number of rounds. The clip/magazine determines that. High-capacity magazines became available to the public again after the Brady bill expired when Bush Jr. was in office.
(If I recall, Jr. said if anyone "figuratively" put the bill on his desk, he would review and consider re-signing it. No politicians from either side took him up on it.)Anyway - as far as the details of this particular story - I realize that less initiated general public may not know or understand that, but I cringe when professional news outlets report this kind of misinformation. I've seen news stories depict shotguns with captions reading "assault rifle."
Whether it's deliberate misrepresentation, or a result of ignorance, it is misleading and unacceptable.
