tell me how you like low vol. training
« on: September 09, 2006, 12:55:57 PM »
Just wondering if alot of other people like low volume/high intensity training. I usuly do 4-8 sets per bodypart, most are rest pause. Max-ot seems to be popular on this board, but do any of you like straight Dorian Yates style? I try to do one set per exercise, but I have to do doggcrapp style sets to make them intense enough. Rest pause sets. Do you like them? is there any  drawbacks to using them for most sets?(exept squats) And how do you use low volume for calves?  thanks

I did the Dorian style a year ago.. Iw was great but I just felt that it limited me to  how many angles i can hit a muscle group with.. When your doing HIT, your only doing two to three movements per muscle group. thats what lot of ati-HITers. when I used HIT, I noticed that intensity was the key.. i still train kinda like HIT with alot of intensity but I use more sets. its what works best  for you..

HIT just a matter of personal preference, your personal makeup as to whether you can take the intensity required to compress all the work into one gruelling set. HIT done right, with a training partner, takes exhaustion to the extreme, so the fundamental question's whether you want and are willing to do this. I don't find it appealing, plus I can get into a groove on the last couple of sets using moderate sets than isn't possible with HIT, while still using a lot of intensity.

Rest-pause is a fave, I alternate that with partials, or they can be combined together-partials using rest-pause. Both are gruelling but excellent for getting through barriers. The only downside is that using either one every workout, especially on most sets, could burn you out.

It's individual though; I think it's better to use them on only some sets.
