It may have something to do with man black men who served during WWII, friend of mine just told me people in Britain were very fond of them during their stationing in throughout Britain before D-Day. He heard that they were very polite, well behaved towards the local people.
Actually, Brits strongly rejected the segregation policy of the day, as the US planned to segregate soldiers during that time.
I guess most poor people thrive when there is routine and structure, and the army provided them with that.
I really don't think black people are hopeless, it is mostly to do with socio-economic status.
I had seen George Foreman movie, he was the polar opposite in his later years, he was obviously always smart, but he was a mess before finding his meaning and place in society, same person, totally different attitude.

It’s funny cause I’m a big 50s and 60s guy music wise and the black music was the best in that era. They did seem genuinely nice at that time and like normal people. Then something went horribly wrong.

   LBJ and welfare happened. It nuked the family unit for blacks and whites
