I should add here, I knew Kal in those days (1977/1978/1979) and many days in the summer of 79' he and I would be alone in the gym (Dan Howards World Gym/Fountain Valley Ca where he managed)) in the afternoon.
A few times he asked he to be...ballast. He would use Boyer Coes shoulder press machine (I think the stack went to 400) and have me sit on top (160 lbs. or so) and hand me a 125 pound dumbbell (heavy as we had) to place in my lap.
Then he would do 20 reps.
Another time he went to the bar dip..chain around his waist, with the 125 cradled in it, then ask me to lay down and pull myself up by the dumbell, and stay suspended. Again another 15 or more reps while yelling at me to pull harder.
And for the record, he had hurt his back on squats, which is why he couldnt bring his legs up later..just doing heavy incline leg presses etc..
And did 32 reps benching 405/ 12 benching 495...
Then one day the new muscle and fitness arrives...and he and I are talking ..the article he just read said Zane had gained 5 lbs. of muscle in the last year..he says to me "Bullshit, the side by side pictures, hes nearer the camera in the recent picture!"
