Spare Tire on a Small Frame
« on: May 18, 2006, 09:57:14 AM »
I was kinda overweight for a year due to birthcontrol. I weighed 165lbs New Years 2005. I walked a little that year and went down to 142lbs. But I got sick of looking and feeling horrible. I started walking on the treadmill 4 months ago and lost 15lbs since then. I'm a 24 yr.old female, 5'7"and 127lbs. I have a bowflex and an ANCIENT treadmill at home that I've been using. I kinda suck at being my own personal trainer when it comes to being consistent with my workouts. But I've reached a few goals and it inspires me to try harder. I started weight lifting 3 weeks ago and doing some ab work.
My question is...
My stomach has defined alot but, I have a ring of belly flab around my lower stomach and sides. Its like my body is getting so small and its leaving protrusions. It's crazy! Should I do more ab work and wait on it to go away or go and see a Lymphatic Therapist. My core is shrinking but Im trying to counteract that with eating alot more appropriate foods and lifting weights. I'm NOT having Lipo...Its bad!, ::)and I cant afford it... ::)

You have to adjust your diet as well as ensure that exercise is done consistently and fairly intensely. The upside of 5-6 days of cardio/week is that it does get easier. Do either 25-40 minutes of continuous low-moderate cardio or 15-20 minutes of HIT with intervals of high intensity. Then consider the diet-I found Atkins works and there are many others, do some research and decide which you'll go with.

Don't get too frustrated but stay motivated, just realize that belly fat is often the last to go. I know that sucks but it is the case with most people.

If you continue to lose weight but cannot get rid of the fat in that area you might have lost so much that you have extra flesh around the abdomen.  This is common in obese people who lose a lot of weight.. they are left with a lot of extra skin which, actually, looks like fat.  If so you might be looking at a tummy tuck or some other form of plastic surgery.

4-6 times a week will tighten you up

first of all remember that Fat is not burned locally.  Situps and crunchers will tone the muscle, but not burn the fat.  If you want to burn the fat Moderate Cardio is the way to go.  Also make sure you don't make the same mistake that alot of women make by not eating.  YOu must eat at least 6 small meals per day.  Keep your protien intake high and your fats and carbs low.  An easy way I have found of doing this is Kroger's Carb Master Yogarts ( 6 ounces, 12 grams protien, 80 calories, 39 cents ).  They provide a quick economical tasty way to increase your meal frequency while keeping calories down. ( I go through about 20 of these each day ) Remember to achieve the body you are wanting it will take many months, not days.  Don't be discouraged if you dont' get the immediate results you are looking for.  If you are pretty toned every where else but still have the spare tire, surgery might be more logical.  Liposuction will cost roughly 4k-5k to do take care of the sparetire.  If you have alot of skin from the previous weight gain, then a tummytuck might be better suited, but they cost much more.  If you don't have very much muscle mass, I would recommend putting on some muscle first, as the more muscle you have the more calories it will burn when you are both working out and resting.

most yogurt has lots of sugar...thats a common mistake girls make when trying to lose weight, they eat tons of fruit because its 'healthy', but it also is loaded with sugar.

I know it is, thats why I recommended the carb masters yogart, because it is high in protien and very low in sugar.  If it had lots of sugar I wouldn't touch the stuff.

Women with a belly are hot - monster beer gut, no. Thick girls are the best. You might think anything other than a 6-pack is ugly, but trust me: soft and round is best  ;)

Yeaaaaah, buddy!
