The fact that Mykonos is the favourite holiday place to be if someone is gay doeasn't mean sh*t.There are other places too that attract gay ppl (i.e Ibiza) but it doesn't mean that all natives there are gay.
As for the fact that Ancient Greeks practiced homosexuality(which is done in EVERY country by a portion of the population that are homosexual-plain statistics),this is a misconception caused by the fact that in Greek art and philosophy the human body (as well as the human spirit) was thought as something beautiful that should be depicted in all forms of art(ie statues etc).
As for the whole "greeks are proud to be greeks more than other people are proud of their nationality" let's not forget that EVERY immigrant tries to hold the bonds with their native land, and not only Greeks.Sure we are proud of our history(and why shouldn't we?) but we are not more proud than other people. If you come to Greece you won't find anybody walking in the street and mumbling "How great are we Greeks".Everybody here are cool with their nationality and don't overdo it.
Thanks for setting shit straight (no pun intended).
Would you say that homosexuality is fairly accepted and common in Greek community?
Also, the Gay community of Greece has a reputation of being extremely macho, what's up with that?
There is the story of the English couple guy and a girl walking the beach in Greece a couple of years ago, and running into some Greek gang. The couple got all upset, and the girl started to scream, pleading to not be raped. The thugs just held her down.
And raped her boyfriend while forcing her to view it.
Funny story. I think it ended up with the English guy committing suicide due to be feeling ashame.
Whether or not the girl moved to Lesbos, is unclear...
