Move to get the Mr O Prize money raised with Inflation
« on: August 06, 2006, 03:32:48 PM »
12 month moving average inflation rate currently stands at 4.3% (http://inflationdata.com/inflation/Consumer_Price_Index/CPI.asp).

If the prize money at last year's O was $500,000, the increase would have to be $21,500 just to keep up with inflation.

But I wouldn't expect a meathead like Bob to be able to wrap his mind around this concept.  The IFBB kicks him $6k and he actually thinks he's ahead of the game.  ::)

Bob, will you consider putting into motion a proposal for a FLAT PERCENTAGE raise in Olympia prize money each year?

The inflation rate is currently 4.3%, as Goatboy pointed out.  If such a measure was approved you would secure a 20k+ raise in prize money each year.  And it's very easy to justify - you don't have to ask for outrageous numbers - just enough to keep the prize money levels at the cost of living.

What do you think?  This year you got 6,000 more than last year, but that was still what, like a 3% loss, if you factor in the inflation rate?  (someone do the math for me).

Thoughts, Bob?  Is this something you'd consider submitting?  I am sure getting athlete approval would be a breeze for this one :)

In every other sport, athletes are paid enough that they don't have to sell drugs or their asses to make ends meet.

I make websites for people in this sport.  When they make more money, they buy more websites.  Plus it's sad seeing a few competitors arrested every year.

I submitted it last year, it was denied.

The onus was put on the promoters to increase the prize money on their own, due to the fact the IFBB has no jurisdiction to demand an increase by the promoters in the current set up.

Other factors that were brought up, were that sponsorship dollars change, attendance changes, overhead increases, etc.

no theyre not. you compare bodybuilding a half dozen sport. check the olympics and every sport there, there's a shitload of sports where they make far LESS money than in bodybuilding and have far less opportunities to make money because there's no drugs to sell, no supplements, no posing, no magazines, no nothing.

stop bitching. nobody cares.

You specifically used cost-of-living/inflation as the basis?

Cicherillo could talk with the competitors at this years Olympia, see if they could agree on some kind of promotional offer that all athletes would agree to in some way if the prize money was raised.

So Cicherillo has something to bargain with.

You've used the word 'onus' a lot lately.  feeling onal?

How come the IFBB can demand a sanction fee and will put their name on a show, can control the judging standards, etc, but they can't put an inflationary rule in place?

Can this "current set up" [sic] be changed?

is this information wrong?

I don't know if it's accurate...but I'll get a response from the man himself and let you know..until, then don't use it to try and prove a point, you don't know yourself.

I don't understand both sides of this argument. Why is 240 such a crusader for the rights of a bunch of narcissistic drug abusers who feel they should live on easy street when that is OBVIOUSLY not in the cards. And if I was Bob I'd have "go fvck yourself" on a control key and I would just hit that as a response to any post 240 made about me no matter what it said.
