Trainer Greg Anderson has been sent back to jail for the third time for contempt of court because he refuses to answer questions about Barry Bonds' anabolic drug use. This time he could be there until January 2008, which is how long the grand jury is convened to investigate steroids in baseball. He refused to answer the question of whether he even knew Bonds & Gary Sheffield, in fact. Anderson was a childhood friend of Bonds, & I must say no one has shown greater loyalty to an old friend than Anderson has. The judge who sent Anderson back to jail (his first sentence was 3 months last year, & his second was 15 days in July) is U.S. District Judge William Alsup, & he's a smug jerk, saying, "Sometimes sitting in the cooler for a long time may have a therapeutic effect & may change his mind." I won't print the words that came to mind when I read that statement (reported in USA TODAY).
Cost of a house for Bonds' former mistress, who has now betrayed him by offering testimony to the grand jury: $80,000
Cost of a year of BALCO specialty items: $100,000+ (this is a guess)
Cost of a loyal friend who won't rat you out: PRICELESS
