Tear drop
« on: September 27, 2006, 09:20:52 AM »
The tear drop muscle just at top of knee on inside of leg, i would like to focus more on that (while still hitting all quads obviously).
Recently strained medial ligament so going v slowly at getting back into it. I have currently been doing cleans, Front squats, leg press (unilateral or normal) leg raises.

Gonna make slight change and do cleans, leg raise, front squat, leg press, BB hacks????

If you want to check the progress of that teardrop, rather than the mirror, measure at the lowest part of the quad. Of course that would  be in a relaxed state. If you gain an inch or so over a short period of time than you are doing very good. Might want to watch that medial ligament, it can be trickie at at times. When you think it's healed it just might not be all the way. Speaking from personal experience.

In SO Cal we pretty much wear shorts all the time. If the leg's begin feeling tighter than progress is being made. Unless your wearing baggies, with the waist line arouund your knees. If Davie wears kilt's all year long he may have a problem. Good Luck.

haha thanks JPM, i dont wear kilts all year round. They are saved more for special occasions. I hear what ur saying about medial ligament, i took last week off weights (leg wise) and rugby, and today i used a quarter of the weight i would normaly use when idoing legs. went on bike for about 5 mins then i rowed, then i did raises for sets of 20 with vvv light weight, then leg press, i kinda feel it between the top and right hand side of my knee cap.

I hope to play rugby this saturday and then use 1/2 the weight id normally use for legs wen i train them next wed. Repeat that the following week then i hope to b back to normal heavy liftin the week after that (2 weeks today)!!!!

Do you think the way i set up my leg day is ok, for overall quad work, while trying to hit tear drop a bit more??

to work on the tear drop do your leg extensions one leg at a time and as you raise your leg turn your toes in... 4 sets of 12 nice and slow...

I will give that a try, i always thoguht that leg extensions wer not really a mass builder?
I know front squats and BB hacks work all the quads and alot in that area, ao that y iv got them in, just wandered if anyone had had gud results with s certain rep scheme/drop sets etc??

I actually meant il  hopefully b back doing normal heavy weights in 3 weeks.

everything will build mass if you use good form and go to failure... the trick here is to hit the muscle and what i outlined does

I come in contact with mostly American football player's and other athletes. I can't suggest strongly enought that your medial ligament may need a good amount of rest, for at least a week or two week. Else the other three main ligaments around the knee joint are put under too much stress, causing more problems. May want to take a layoff of doing any direct leg exercises for the moment, even with moderate weight. If getting playing time in on saturday, hopefully your coach is aware of your limitations on that one leg. If you use tape before a match, than you may have someone  apply that around the knee area.

Everything might build a certain amount of limited mass but not over whelming mass. Compound exercises tend to build the most pure muscle mass in the shortest period of time. Going to failure while having a potentional ligament strain may not be the best of idea's. Going to failure, with even a healthy body, is not always a good idea in regular workouts. As WOOO suggested, leg extensions can be rewarding. But try avoiding full lockouts at the top position. Leg extensions are usually done as a full warm-up motion or in a pre-exhaust leg work. One leg at a time is also a good idea. Will tend to balance out the strength of both legs. As step-ups are also a good idea for equal leg strength balance for athelets. Good Luck.
