Thats what good about Temple they are ridicoulously low and the their support is a million times better.  I just can't believe how much the new owners of Gold's have ruined a good thing.

Hey onlyme- great story. i was actually in the gym at the time Silva and Onosai were training, although i was just in highschool and looked like a dear in head lights. i remeber signing up at The Gym and being sooo intimidated. before i would start an excercise i would stand and watch for about ten minutes to make sure i didnt jump in on anybody. and if someone looked at me while i was doing the excercise i would immediatedly ask if they were using the equipment i was using just to make sure. the last thing i wanted to do was piss off those guys you mentioned, i was 15 at the time. i was actually the youngest person at the gym and had to get my mothers signature becuase i was underage. i miss that gym, when im in honolulu i train there but the atmosphere is not the same, still a great place to train. this tall beautiful girl named Chico signed me up..remember her? and Mike Sapp made me my first training program. i remember that bull dog that used to run around at the gym, Yohimbe was its name. crazy dog and it wasnt even on a leash. i never understood how strong samoans and hawaiians were untill i got to that gym. samoans/hawaiians i cant tell them apart kinds like japanese and chinese but whatever. Mike Sapp is still involved with the Gold right? i heard he got paid well from Golds to sell the The Gym to them with all of its members, do you any other details? great stories again thanks.

Mike owned 15%, yohimbe was psycho.  Maris made off well, Mike, not so much.  Mike is still in charge of independant personal trainers.  He also has a private gym in LA that his brother Steve runs for him.  Freakiest guy had to be Kiu Tuita.  Six plates on inclines for reps.  Bill Duarte was also a sight, especially before all his trouble.  Mafi, Paco, Faima, all make most powerlifters look small.  And Tony Leiato, he is from another planet.  The Gym was a great place to train, I miss it.  I used to train there early mornings prior to going to work at Golds Gym/GMI when Odd and Adam owned it.  Even when 24 Hr bought them, I still trained at the Gym.  I also had the opporturnity to run Golds Honolulu for two years.  It is the best place on Oahu to train at.  Keith, when are you guys gonna do a gym on Oahu, an MMA gym associated with BJ would rock.  Still training with Onzukas for BJJ, but must go to 808 for striking.  I would love to go to one place for everything.  I can probably line up a few investors as well.  Just comp me and my training parnter a membership.  I dropped by Carlos Valente's this past weekend and rolled.  He still is a nice guy.

We are actually signing the Area Franchise for Temple.  Which means we can open anywhere here or sub-franchise.  From what were are told there are 4 people on Oahu and one on Maui who want to open Temple Gyms right away.  SO I would think sometime within the next 30 to 45 days we will see who is interested and there business plan and proposed locations and get it going.  Talked to Dorian the friday before the Olympia and he said he wants BJ Penn MMA Training Center in their London club.  So it appears that there are more and more people wanting this.  And yes Kiu was not a human at all.  When he entered his first bench event at Ala Moana Mall when Francis had one there on Center Stage Kiu enter and did 600.  Carlos was always funny.  He had a clothing line too I think.

You knwo I like Lynn but I usually try to hide when I see her.  She really ruined herself.  She asn't that bad back in the early 90's.  Paula is just unreal.  I actually talked to her not to long ago.  I can't remember why though.  I think she called me for something or I called her.  I can't remember but she sounds great and happy with John. Hopefully you can come out for the Grand Opening in Kona.  We are going to be very star studded.  Allot of  MMA guys will be here cause of BJ.  And I am pretty sure Dorian will have quite a few guys coming.  Kaz and others will get my invite too.

I've always wanted to open a great gym in Hawaii. Imagine my equipment over there!

The gym business is a service industry and if you don't like people you should not be in it. You also have to treat people as if they are right. That is difficult at times. Ray Mentzer told me he had to kick guys out of his gym and never regretted doing it. I have run a gym for 35 years now and we haven't had to boot many out in that time. I can think of only 4 or 5 people in all that time.

People come and go. You never know why they change gyms. Some want a gym with better girls or who knows why they go. You can't always believe what people tell you. The truth is there is a lot of mobility in this business. The bigger guys feel they shouldn't have to pay fees and yet use the gym and equipment the most. Anyway you look at it the fees aren't much for what you get. Gyms are huge now and the rent, and running costs can be substantial. If you have air conditioning that adds plenty more. I don't see too many gyms making a lot of money. Most owners are just getting by.

Good luck to Keith in his ventures in Hawaii. Maybe I should open there to give him some competition?

Yes we are going to have some great cardio equipment coming in.  And BJ is fighting next month I thnk.  His rematch with GSP he will kill him and then get Matt again. He will not run out of gas.  He really didn't run out of gas during Matts fight.  He had separated a couple ribs and just couldn't breathe and it hurt bad.  He said he did it when he was twisting from under Matt to get Matts back.  The doctor said it took incredible amount of pressure to do what happened to BJ.  If that didn't happened he would have easily got Matt in the 2nd round.  Oh well he lost and he'll be back even madder.

When I get the exact date I will.  On Nov. 11 we will have BJ come over and help with pre-sales.  Dorian will be in Russia that weekend so he is coming over the weekend before or after.  Our pre-sales office is right across the entrance to the other gym and on Nov 11 they are having their Grand Opening.  SO I figure its the best time to get more people in for the pre sales.
