7 tds in 3 games. the record will be his. i wonder which purdue and oregon state teams will show up. purdue hasn't looked very good this year and oregon state was smacked by Boise State early in the year, but then upset USC.

who does Hawaii get in their bowl game?

Purdue apparently has problems defending the pass.  Could be a long night for the Boilermakers.  They apparently have a very good DE.

I think UH will be favored in both the Purdue and Oregon State games.  This is the best offense I've seen in years.  A real machine.  Nate Ilaoa is probably as important as Colt Brennan.  A 255 pound RB who runs like he's 200 pounds.  Our D is playing great football.  It is possible we can run the table and finish 12-2.  We should crack the top 25 today.

We get the sixth place team in the PAC-10 in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl.  Looks like it might be UCLA.

UH's Brennan named finalist for national QB award

Advertiser Staff

University of Hawai'i quarterback Colt Brennan Tuesday was named one of the three finalists for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award that honors the top college quarterback.
Notre Dame's Brady Quinn and Ohio State's Troy Smith, both seniors, are the other finalists, officials announced.

The original watch list had 34 players and was trimmed to 18 semifinalists earlier this month.

The winner will be announced Dec. 7 on ESPN in Orlando, Fla., and be feted Feb. 19 in Fort Worth, Texas. Award officials said Brennan will be invited to both events.

UH quarterback Brennan finalist for Manning Award

Advertiser Staff

The Sugar Bowl Committee has named Colt Brennan of the University of Hawai'i as one of the 11 finalists for the Manning Award as the nation's best college quarterback.
"That's cool," said Brennan, who leads the nation in passing and total offense. "It's nice to be nominated for another award. It's an honor, as it is an honor to be considered for the Davey O'Brien (award). I'm excited that the team and I were able to get some recognition for our program. Now it's time to get back to work."

The Manning Award, according to the news release, was created in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning, and will be presented following the holiday bowl season.

The Mannings and a panel of national media will select the winner.

You mean Nebraska (8-3) and Colorado (2-9)?  Boooorrrriinnngg.   :)  I'll be at Aloha Stadium on Saturday night when UH pounds Purdue.  And I'll have my buddy (a die hard Purdue fan) sitting next to me.   :)  The Purdue coach has been crying all week about the game.  I've never heard anything like it.  Literally offered up about 12 excuses why he doesn't want to play the game.  What a punk.

LOL they'd rather be in Indiana in late November than Hawaii?

I wonder how that trip affects the players. The travel and all. and then they get to Hawaii I'm sure alot of them would rather lay on the beach than strap on the pads and practice

Here is what Purdue's head coach said about the UH O (which is the same thing Dennis Erickson said after we beat up on Idaho):

"This is probably as gifted an offensive team as we've played since coming to Purdue. It might be the best offensive team that I've ever seen," said Tiller, who has been coaching football since 1965. "Out west there were some great BYU teams with LaVell Edwards that were pretty impressive. But this Hawaii team is as prolific an offense as I've ever seen."

4) That Colt Brennan is no WAC fluke: Purdue, an 8-4 Big Ten team, went to the Island on Saturday and found out first hand what it’s like to face the nation’s No. 1 passer. Down 35-27 with five minutes to go, Brennan rallied his team to a 42-35 victory by throwing a touchdown, converting a two-point conversion and throwing another TD. He finished 33-of-48 for 434 yards and three TDs, raising his season total to 51. And his quest for legitimacy continues next week against 8-4 Oregon State (i.e. the team that beat USC). Barring a total collapse in that game, Brennan will be making it onto my Heisman ballot; I sure hope enough other voters concur to send him to New York.

Brennan finalist for Walter Camp award

Associated Press

Troy Smith of Ohio State and Brady Quinn of Notre Dame are among the five finalists for the Walter Camp Football Foundation player of the year award.
Smith and Quinn are joined by West Virginia running back Steve Slaton, Hawai'i quarterback Colt Brennan and Arkansas running back Darren McFadden, the foundation announced Wednesday.

The winner will be announced Dec. 7 after a vote by 119 Division I-A head coaches and sports information directors. The trophy will be presented Dec. 13.

Smith, a senior, led top-ranked Ohio State to a 12-0 record and a spot in the national championship game. He threw for 2,507 yards and 30 touchdowns with just five interceptions this season.

Quinn threw for 3,278 yards and 35 touchdown throws with five interceptions while leading No.12 Notre Dame to a 10-2 record.

How can I say this in mixed company?  Only a fool who hasn't watched film and looked at the numbers would leave Brennan off his Heisman ballot.  I have zero respect for Heisman voters.  They lost me years ago when they gave it to Gino Torretta over Marshall Faulk.  The award does not go to the best player in the country.  It goes to the best player on one of the best BCS schools with no more than 2 losses.  It's a joke IMO.  Just like this ridiculous BCS.  Notre Dame was a hair away from possibly playing for the "national championship."  Nuff said.

RB Leon Jackson, former high school pheom in Washington and transfer from the Univ. of Nebraska, just committed to UH.  Talk about football speed.  Check out this clip.  This kid will be huge in our offense.

You oldtimer.  You mean GO WARRIORS!   ;D  The stadium was literally rocking.  I'll be there again too.  Only 1,000 tickets left as of this morning.  Will be a sellout.  I think we'll cover too.  We would have blown Purdue out if not for the three turnovers.

Did you watch the clip of Jackson?

some say he got homesick at Nebraska. apparantly he'd narrowed his choices down to Idaho and Hawaii. he possibly could have been starting at safety for nebraska, but would have been 5th on the depth chart at RB

good luck to him

That's great for Boise.  I hope they win, or at a minimum perform well, in the Fiesta Bowl.

I've been ranting about the Hesiman for weeks (years actually).  If the award were truly given to the best player in the country and based on the numbers, the voting should be something like Colt, Johnson, T. Smith . . . Quinn somewhere near the top 10.  Funny how strength of schedule is such a major factor for Colt and Johnson, but not Brady Quinn.   :-\

Or we could also bring in the fact of being undefeated. Yeah schedule is such a big deal.... Sure it is... THE BCS SHOULD DIE... But i reallyont care i never imagined anyone from the WAC being in the top ten.. but its happened and IAN JOHNSON is only a sophmore so he has two more years to be mentioned in the heisman run..... so if he performs like this for more 2 more years they have to put him up there near the top 5 so we shall see.

JIM DONNAN
ESPN college football analyst and former Georgia coach

"I've been impressed not just with Colt Brennan, but the way that entire team has developed over the season.

"We hear a lot about the system. The system's good, but this guy has the ability to make it in any system and has a chance to go to the next level. We hang out and talk with guys like Ron Jaworski a lot, and he likes him.

"Every defense knows he's going to throw the ball, but they still can't stop him. If I'm another team, I don't want to play him. I've got him No. 3 on our Heisman Trophy watch. He's made a quantum leap from the start of the season.

"I think right now the short list for 2007 is (Arkansas running back Darren) McFadden, him, (West Virginia quarterback Pat) White and (West Virginia running back Steve) Slaton. "

the problem with Brennan and the Heisman is that you really don't know how much of it is him and how much of it is the system and the competition (or lack of) that he's faced.

today's game against oregon state will be a good test. they are a little like arkansas in the fact that they are not the same team that lost 42-14 to Boise State (much like arkansas is a lot better than they were when they lost 50-14 to USC)

i think it's possible you could put around 15-20 QB's from around the country into Hawaii's system and they'd put up the same numbers Brennan has.
Go Big Red!!!
