Illegal war? Come on man, in whos eyes is it illegal and why? Because he never got authorization from the UN? The same UN that had 17 resolutions broken by the harmless Saddam Hussien? Having the UN's authorization for anything means little to nothing. The UN certainly makes it a point not to approve anything that would be in our interest, unless it has to do with taking on the burden of peacekeeping, logistics, aide or our transportation assests.
Some presidents use a UN approval for force to circumvent having to ask congress for approval for long term operations (Somalia) It really is all about going for the path of least resistence. And please, before we go all bumpersticker politics on here, there is a big difference between out-right lying and forging evidence, which wasnt done, to have a mound of shakey evidence, a planted story about the yellow cake by MI6 etc etc and stretching it enough to make a rationale for war. Personally, there needs to be a democracy in the ME, plus we now have Iran sandwiched. I just disagree about the actuall planning of the war.
The idea of invading Iraq have been around since directly after Gulf War I. GWB still had holdovers from that era in his circle and they brought it to the front after 9/11.There is a great book I'm reading called Cobra II that explains the war planning from day 1, incredibly interesting, check it out. Rant over.
